Er...I guess they are still flying, albeit as a regional carrier flying puddle jumping Dash-8's. Of course, the planes fly under the U.S. Airways livery
it's called a codeshare. every major airline does it, except for southwest and alaska, they own horizon so I don't think it counts. The codeshare allows the major to have a presence in a smaller community that would be too costly to operate in, if a person can book a ticket all the way through from bumfuck USA to los angeles on say american, it's more business american has, the regional can operate cheaply in that market. The regional gets the business, and use of the major's booking system, I would imagine they get in on some other things like cheaper fuel and a deal on maintenance, since some of them don't have their own maintenance and have to send it out. There are other advantages but no one here cares :)
the dash-8 is an excellent a/c, but actually does have a reputation for being difficult to land smoothly. I believe piedmont is phasing out their dash fleet and replacing them with canadair regional jets, as are most of the regional airlines. I'm willing to bet piedmont made money last year, unlike most of the majors (again southwest and alaska, actually) most of the regionals are profitable and still hiring pilots, though slowly.

Just a little something to add to Dome's excellent posts...

When the shooter establishes a point on the come-out roll, any player who has made a pass line bet is allowed to "take the odds." A single odds bet is an additional wager, up to the amount of your original wager, that the point number will be repeated before a 7 is rolled. The odds bet is the best wager you can make in the game of craps, because the house has no built-in advantage. The odds bet not only has no house edge associated with it, but also has no official designated space on the craps table. Therefore, to take the odds, you must place the appropriate amount of chips behind your pass line bet in the open area of the craps layout.

BTW, one other thing about Hoyle Casino.
When you play craps it lights up the "winning" sections of the table on every single roll. This sort of visual aid really gets you up to speed on the layout of a craps table.
Same thing with roulette. Can't recommend the game enough as a basic primer for getting comfortable enough to play the more advanced Vegas games. And you can make stupid bets and not feel like a schmuck. :)
