My TV died today

    Any ideas what this may be?
    Except for a 1/2" horizontal strip of picture, my entire screen is black.
    I don't feel like lugging the beast to a repair shop if it is going to cost alot to fix. I would rather put the money towards a new TV.
    Funny........TV's used to last for 20+ years. This is the 3rd Tv I've bought in the last 15 years.

    True, they do not have the longevity they used to. You may have had your horizontal oscillator do the light bulb effect and go out. It may be more in order to get another display with a warranty. Have you considered any other technologies beside direct-view (regular television's)?
