I wanted to share this tidbit from the weekend and strike another blow against the notion that PS is "family friendly."

My 10-year-old stepson has been educated about widescreen. He has insisted "widescreen is better" ever since we demo'd a scene in "The Iron Giant" in both PS and WS, and he saw the difference.

He asked this weekend, "Is Watership Down on DVD yet?" He read the book last summer and has the video at his mom's house.

We replied, "Yes, but only in full frame."

"Then don't buy it," he said. "Dad, you should write and tell them you won't buy it unless it's in widescreen."

    What a kid!

    Cute story.
But FYI, Watership Down is available on DVD in anamorphic widescreen. [IMG]

Thanks for the info! I'll look it up right now. I seem to remember that the first time I looked for "Watership Down," I could only find a full-frame release.

This might make a good Christmas gift for our widescreen loving boy!

Great story! Kids are certainly nothing to worry about in this issue. The toughest ones to convert are some of today's adults who aren't very receptive to the changes in technology. I can't imagine many kids from today growing up to prefer P&S-it will die eventually.

An honest mistake in telling him it's not in widescreen, assuming it is. Now he'll be really surprised Christmas morning when it shows up as a mystical gift from Santa.

I agree with Andrew. My sister was in a DVD store last month with her 11-year-old daughter and was looking for a title to buy for her husband. She picked one out and asked, "Do you think he'd like this?" My niece replied, "Yes, but don't buy that one. It isn't widescreen."
Kids are truly the future. Maybe we should give up on J6P and work on educating the young 'uns! [IMG]

When I got Monsters, Inc. my little brothers and sisters told me to make it full frame but I made it widescreen every time we watched it anyways. I eventually showed them full frame once and 5 minutes into the movie they told me to make it widescreen [IMG]

    This is good, I guess.

As long as they don't demand widescreen versions of movies that weren't made that way...

I'll tell my husband that he has superior genes, but that I'm obviously a good influence on the boy! [IMG]

Well, my daughter is WS educated as well. When you put in a title that offers you the choice, I ask her 'Widescreen or full screen?' She answers 'Widescreen! Fullscreen cuts off your movie!' oh, did I mention that she is 3 years old? Smart kid, she gets her brains from her mother and her love of movies and chocolate from me.
