Here's another mail from Another Universe, received yesterday.

This is a brief update for everyone who has the My So-Called Life DVD set

on order from Another Universe. We are still on track to begin shipping

this week. I will actually be picking up the DVDs from the factory this

Wednesday and driving them back to California. We will begin shipping some

to customers as early as this Thursday and Friday, with the bulk of the

shipment going out the following week.

We still expect to ship the Lunchbox and bonus disk in early December. Our

current focus is to get the boxed sets to everyone that has been waiting.

We will continue to update everyone, as we get closer to the ship date.

When we ship, you will get a shipping confirmation e-mailed to you,

including a tracking number so you can watch it zoom its way to your front

door.

Again, we are sorry for all the delays on this project, but we are almost

to the end. Thanks for staying with us, and we look forward to getting the

DVDs to you.

Did you actually buy this set Steve, or just get on their mailing list? I haven't received anything from AU other than a cancellation notice.

What I find conspicuously absent is any mention of the additional perks Ross was touting on the MSCL boards for those of us who were supposed to be getting an exclusive lunchbox by paying in full in March, in light of the half price sets at every other retailler. There had been mention of a gift certificate, T-shirt and some undisclosed extra, all of which seem to have vanished.

There is still no mention on AU's site or in the multitude of ads they have taken out that the lunchbox will ship seperately. I can't say I see much change in the deceptive marketing tactics employed by this company.

Yes, I have purchased this set. Why else would I be getting mailings about it?

Just as a follow-up:
www.deepdiscountDVD.com
is now selling the My So-Called Life DVD Boxed Set
for $45.78 and one is offered optional
free "media mail" shipping.
(I sure hope that yet-to-even-exist bonus DVD
and lunchbox are worth the extra $54.21.)
Hmmmmm..
As an aside, I have heard back from one of my two credit
card companies, and as things stand now, I am getting
back $214.98 of the $314.96 owed me by AU.
(I guess that nine page FAX might have made an impression.) ;)

Has anyone who has cancelled an order at Another Universe in recent weeks received a refund?
I completed a cancellation request at Drygrass on October 16th. On the same day, I submitted much the same request using the customer service form on the AU site. I also e-mailed this Ross character directly, and have done several times since. As far as I can tell, all of this has been to no avail. Certainly, I have received no refund, and tomorrow it will be three weeks since I insisted on one.
I did receive the following circular by e-mail (on October 25th) from AU:
We have received your cancellation request for your order for the “MY SO CALLED LIFE DVD Collectors Set”. Your Cancellation was received via e-mail, phone, fax, or the DRYGRASS customer service page.
If your decision to cancel is indeed correct then there is nothing further you need to do. Please use this e-mail as confirmation of that cancellation.
If, however, after reading the rest of this information you feel your cancellation status is in error, you may change it by doing the following; Send an e-mail to [email protected] with the subject line UN-CANCEL AND SHIP! For Verification, please include your NAME, ORDER NUMBER and SHIPPING ADDRESS
****Please be aware that all orders will be checked for current payment status before reinstatement. ****
We will be shipping “MSCL DVD COLLECTORS SETS” beginning next week. We will be picking them up from the BMG warehouse and driving them across country in order to expedite their arrival. We expect to begin shipping on 11/1. WE WILL BE WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK TO GET THEM TO YOU AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The MSCL lunchbox will be shipping to us from G-Whiz and should arrive in late November/ early December. With the arrival of the lunchbox, we will include and ship any remaining promotional/collectors items owed with said lunchboxes. We will also include any items purchased via gift certificate. We will do this free of shipping charges as well.
Along with the lunchbox, we will be shipping the MSCL bonus disk. That disk is being professionally mastered and duplicated and will include 60 minutes of an original interview with Winnie Holzman, Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick. That interview took place the day they were informed that “Once And Again” had been cancelled. It is interesting and covers a lot of ground. In addition we have an hour of “question and answer” from the Museum of TV and Radio.
Purchasers from before September 17th will also be receiving a gift certificate.
We are extremely sorry for all the problems and delays in getting the My So-Called Life project out to you, the fans. We hope that you enjoy the series when you receive it from whichever vendor you choose.
Another Universe.
Charming, indeed.
And no mention, you will note, of any refund.
Anyone else fared any better?
How far can this abuse go?

Tom and Mark-

Have you disputed the charges with your credit card

companies?

I cancelled in mid-October, and I have, as previously

stated got $214.98 out of AU, from the $314.96 they owe

me. (In other words, one of my two disputes has gone

in my favor...and this is for charges in Feb, March, and

July!!!)

So, you have waited ample time to hear from AU

(10 business days, in my mind). Contact your credit

card companies, and tell them you are disputing charges

for items not recieved, cancelled orders not refunded,

and failure to delivery item on the date promised.

(The official street date of September 17, 2002, seemed

to be of MOST interest to one of my banks.)

Hope this helps,

Mark

I just got an email from AU that the DVD set

was sent out by UPS with a tracking number.

I checked the tracking number and something

is on it's way. I will report as soon as I get it.

Well I have the set in my hands for AU that was shipped by UPS.

I have checked the 5 discs to make sure that none of them

are scratched and that the right disc is in the right case.

None of the cases come with inserts (time for fan based inserts).

I ran the discs through bit rate viewer to see the results.

Time Bit Rate

Disc 1

48:00 5.57

47:12 5.56

47:10 5.68

Disc 2

47:30 5.46

47:06 5.45

47:54 5.46

47:08 5.45

Disc 3

48:02 5.45

47:22 5.17

48:12 5.45

48:06 5.46

Disc 4

47:36 5.46

47:52 5.17

47:38 5.45

48:44 5.16

Disc 5

46:22 5.46

47:12 5.45

48:28 5.46

47:42 5.45

I switched the case for disc one with a slim double and

put the soundtrack CD with the first disc.

I have a completely different problem. Through all of this I have patiently waited for AU to fix the problems, not because I believe them to be a reputable company (which is obviously untrue), but because I just didn't want the hassle of trying to wrest my money out of their hands. I thought once I got the tracking number for my set that at least I would have something to show for this disaster, but no. I moved back at the end of June and changed my address for the order back on July 3rd. Where did they send my set? To the previous address of course!
UPS didn't deliver it and shows that I moved on the tracking page, so I imagine it must be headed back to AU. I sent an email to both Mike and Ross at AU as soon as I knew, but have yet to hear from them. I don't think that in the last 9 years of ordering things over the internet I have ever been jerked around so much.
Hope you guys are enjoying the set, and I hope that one day I'll get mine - cause if I don't, AU is certainly going to get theirs!
