I was rewatching The Matrix tonight and my roommate of a few days asked, "Is that Keanu Reeves?"

I couldn't believe it. He says he doesn't watch movies very often, but he didn't even KNOW about the Matrix movies until now. He's a college student, isn't it illegal to be that ignorant about popular culture? He even watches some TV, and not one Matrix commercial! Do you know someone as out of the loop as my roommate?

While it's tough to imagine that such a scenario was possible, I can believe that some people just have totally different interests and focus on different stuff that occupies their time/energy/resouces.

    Gasp!

Someone has life away from a screen! Quick, call the press, the authorities, and Guiness!

Sometimes I envy people like that... I know people who get along fine without the need to watch TV at all. Generally they're too involved with the opposite sex to care about popular culture. [IMG]

Eh, I don't think it's that shocking. If you put a list of the current top 50 selling pop singers/bands in front of me, I'd maybe know 3 or 4 of them (I've never watched MTV or VH1). Ditto for those reality shows - I've never seen more than 5 minutes of any given one.

I see how it could happen. When The Matrix was coming to DVD my brother, who at the time didn't even have a DVD player was looking forward to it while I hadn't even heard of it. It's quite rare for me to watch television so I don't see commercials and I don't go to the cineplex on a regular basis so I miss out on the hype driving most new releases.

Well, my take on this isn't as bad, but before getting married I dated a girl who had never seen ANY of the Star Wars or Indiana Jones films. I nearly stopped dead of a heart attack. How could anyone in my generation NOT have grown up with those? She knew about them, and occasionally used pop culture refrences to them, but only vaguely knew what they wwere about.

Thankfully, I was a caring BF and ensured she saw all six films ASAP.

I am just thrilled that I found and married my wife, who is an even bigger SW fan then me (I have been Trek for way too long to admit) and is happy to watch and discuss The Matrix any day of the week.
