First let me start by saying that this is my first review. Every thing I say is purely subjective and is my personal opinion. There are no measurements or specs. http://www.angelfire.com/va2/tronix/ht1.html

Good review Bruce N. It will be very helpful for those on a budget for HT gear posts that are destined to come.

    Bruce,
Excellent write up Bruce, and as expected held up to what I wrote in an earlier post. (different thread)
You will find that once you add the sub, Sony or any equivelnet, that they take a little more jucie, gain a db or two in vol, and sound even better as time goes on.
I bought these for my nephew with other equipment as a starter system, and have been checking back to see if the sound changed as the speakers broke in. Yes they do change, and continued to do so untill about 100hrs play time. Im still very impressed with these bargin basement priced speaks. Audiophile by no means, but as introduction to HT starter speaks, they ~{kick}~ for the buck!
    ==========
    For med sized rooms,(1000/1500
cb-ft) what most of us have, fear not they will play loud enough-with given clean power... ~{*LOUD* ~ BUT NOT REFRENCE}~ Sub highly recomended!
    =========
Im still surprised at how good they sound every time I go over to check on the break in.
Get a sub on them and you will be even more pleased.
For most starter HT's, people can, and do much worse for much more money as far as 5 speakers go.
Hope this addition to Burue's write up, helps those of you considering the jump to Fluance's 5 speaker package.....
    Regards
    Geoff

Bruce--thanks a lot for the review--very well done [IMG]
Your review is good enough for me as far as an entry level 5 speaker system goes.Sounds like a bargain for the price of $200(I realize shipping does add $50).Thanks again Bruce for the heads up!

Done. You know, I never knew that section existed and I bet a lot of other people don't either. Shouldn't there be a more noticable link to the reviews section on the main forum page?
Nathan: I'm not sure how to rank them by stars unless I do a more serious comparison with other speaker sets.
Thomas: Just looking at the HTD speakers I'd say the Fluance look much more solid. All the plastic speakers I listened to sound like crap.

That was my thought exactly! [IMG]
Look at the folder tabs at the top of the forum page. Click on the REVIEWS tab. For some reason it just doesn't stand out. I had never seen it before. Guess i didn't really look. [IMG]

    Geoff,
I'm waiting for the right deal on a SA-WM40 sub. I'm in no hurry, I don't have a desire for instant gratification. [IMG]
I find the best deals by waiting, sooner or later someone is going to sell what you want for cheap. I've been drooling for a Symetrix 551E EQ for my SVS setup, I was ready to click 'buy' at the website but I decided to wait. Today I found a Rane PE-17 on Ebay, got it for $215! I consider that a great deal. I've saved literally thousands of dollars this way.
Just bide your time and keep looking, something will eventually turn up is what I say.

    Bruce,
    Great review!
I have to say that I was skeptical as to the quality of
these speakers not due to the price so much as the fact
that you can not see them in a retail outlet or Audio
shop. I had visions of Acoustis 9001's running through
my mind (Anyone who has been approached by the white van
guys in bank parking lot's know what I mean).
As for saving money, I have to say that I absolutely
love spending money but at the same time I do shop
around for the best prices. For example I waited till
the very last week when Montgomery Wards was going out
of business and I bought my nearly $3000.00 RPTV at the
very last minute for less than $1400.00 and that was a
sealed box set not a floor model! Likewise I bought my
AR AR9's on the net for $550.00 and my AR AR4C Center for
$158.00 when Crutchfield gets $999.00 and $299.00 respectively.
I also bought my Panasonic CV51 DVD for $205.00 when the
same player sells at Crutchfield for $250.00. The net in
general is a great place to shop when you are careful. I
only deal with places that register with BizRate and other
Online E-Tailer rating systems. I also picked up my $1050.00
Onkyo DS787 Receiver for $735.00 new in sealed box (ebay)
All in all I would say I saved a small fortune which will
allow me to turn around and put that money back into other
components for my system. And let's face it, the money is as
good in our pockets as it is in thier's!
Again great writeup, You should go over to http://www.audioreview.com

Hmmm, those Fluence speaks look pretty good for only $200. I just spent $299, delivered, on the JBL NSP-1 setup and am wondering if the Fluance setup might outperform them. BTW, I just also picked up a Sony WM40 sub to go with the NSP-1 speakers for only $142 at Best Buy. It was an open/unopened box special. I spotted a unit which was brand new but which had a hole punched into the box during shipping. I asked if they would mark that sub down, and they marked it down 25%. I hauled it out to my truck and opened the sub... perfect. Now, all I need to do is wait till Christmas to set this system up for the kids. [IMG]

Great stuff Bruce. Its nice to know that there are bargains to be had out there, $250 for speakers including shipping is definately one of them. I remember a thread like this about Fluance some months ago and I was quite skeptical of these, especially the whole "final sale" idea. Great to hear the product stands on its own.
For all the Canadians out there, don't confuse Fluance with Nuance. In the latters case, you WILL be taken to the cleaners with an inferior product. Happy hunting [IMG]
