To answer the original "problem" asked about in this thread, the simple answer is that this movie is Dorothy's dream -- and anything may happen in a dream, and nothing needs to be logical.

Oz is my favorite film of all time as well. But I always thought Toto was underappreciated. Afterall, who revealed the truth about the Wiz? Toto.
