This is driving me nuts, My XP PC is working great in all other aspects but as I move the mouse the pointer starts moving then stops for a few seconds then frees up. My pc is a e-machine AMD 2700 with 512 SDDR ram and 64mb video.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

    Clean your mouse!
Open the bottom. The rollers that the ball rolls on collect dust and dirt. Sharp pointed tweezers are ideal, but a small bladed knife will work. Just be careful. You can use a Q-tip and alcohol to wet and loosen the dirt. Once cleaned, it should work like a brand new one!
    Good luck! [IMG]

    BTW.........
I bought an optical mouse, for this very reason..........

Nope it is an optical mouse (no ball)! I should have mentioned that!

Do other things stutter simultaneously? If you're playing MP3s, does the music halter at the same time as the mouse? If you're typing, does the text stop briefly during the hiccup?

It might not be a mouse problem, but could be something causing your system to briefly pause. My older PC, running Win XP does this frequently. Some process randomly grabs the 100% of the CPU process, causing all other tasks to freeze for a half second.

Dave that’s what it seems like but no other things hang up at all, just the mouse. And it's not all the time just occasionally but enough to drive me nuts!
I have not tried another mouse perhaps I will do that!

    Thanks

    Wes

I had the same problem with a Benq wireless optical mouse, I ended up figuring it was a driver problem(Benq install for the extra button), and never used it again

Mind you the Benq Keyboard is awesome..

"My pointer hangs up" ......HAHA but only when I wake up!
