I can get it to play 5.1 on linkin park and some other discs. But metallica and beatoven its only 2.0. I have a pioneer dv-656-a. It just sends a clicking noise through the center and surrounds, with no sub. Is it a problem with the player or my reciever?

Is it because these are newer discs? Are there different formats?

Probably a similar problem to the 563a, but I thought that had been fixed. Is that a recent model?

What's the model number of your player and what do you have your defaults set for in the set-up menu? Many DVD-A disks have a 2 channel hi-rez track (24/48, 24/96). You might also be hearing the down-rez'd stereo output.

I assume you have the 6 analog cables connected from the player to your receiver?
