i took delivery of this new set yesterday at noon. i spent most of the day fiddling with the picture settings, doing the 9 point convergence, and going into the service menu to make changes per Brett's website. i'd read how bad this set was out of the box, so i was somewhat prepared.
i expected my basic cable to be less than dazzling. what surprised/disappointed me was how unimpressive DVD looks. i demo'd xmen, gladiator, o brother where art thou, starship troopers, private ryan, and for the most part the picture just doesn't seem that sharp and in some instances backgrounds are downright blurry.
i've never owned a RPTV and have heard it takes some time for the guns to break in, but how much better is it going to look? i thought i would be blown away by dvd. granted my dvd player is a first generation sony w/o progressive and w/o component outputs, it always looked very sharp on my 32" direct view. if dvd were awesome i could live with the way cable looks. any input from those who bought this set?? i'm debating whether or not to keep it or have it picked up.

    Tommy,
Since you are not using progressive or component video I suggest you get one to make a qualified decision.
Also Why not use some capital letters? It doesn't take much to use them =)

i went into service mode and made these changes per brett's website:
    Register Old Value New Value

and then put the user settings similar to what his are. also tried the 9pt convergence. how do you do the 64 point??
