So, I just finished placing my 3Q DVD order from CD*NOW (another 25 DVDs -- most were box sets), and I started to reorganize my DVD rack to prepare for their arrival. I then realized that I would be running out of shelf space by the end of the year.
Now, this doesn't sound like a terribly big deal, right? Well, I own one of these racks (that's over 1,000 DVDs)!
*sigh* I think I'll kill myself when they release HD-DVDs and render my collection worthless.

Are you sure you're a DVDaholic? Have you ever wanted to buy a DVD just because the cover or packaging looks cool? I did.
I also bought some movies for the isolated score like The Corruptor.
I don't think 1K DVDs is unreasonable if you're a huge movie fan and you've been collecting for a long time. It really depends on how you budget everything else around you. If you spend that much money on DVD, let's hope you're cutting down on eating out, CDs, ect.
I too am running out of space for DVDs and got to the point of being ashame to showing them off because of the ridicule I'd get.
I put away some of the ones that I'm ashame of in my room so that I won't get the "You bought that stupid movie"? Examples: The Postman, Carnival of Souls(Wes Craven one [IMG]), Mortal Kombat Annilation, ect.

Well admitting it is the first step.

It won't do alot of good though, because there isn't a cure yet.

I found a cure- seeing how many discs I have that are 16x9 enhanced that I can't take full advantage of since I don't have a 16x9 TV! I've decided to hold off on buying more discs for a while so I can get a new TV; in the meantime I have over 100 DVDs I haven't even watched once yet, though I get depressed thinking how much better they'd look on a 16x9 screen!

You could have been a LaserDisc junkie -- we ran out of space and money far faster than any of you DVD whippersnappers! [IMG]
Still, I only have about 300 LDs. You're an addict, man.

    Daniel,

How did you get a copy of Collateral Damage if it is not available yet? And how do you have the Star Wars Trilogy, which is on your DVD list? I have the trilogy remasters on LD, but the originals were not released on DVD. Are these bootleg copies?

Bob: Collateral Damage was a pre-order and ..er.. no comment on the Star Wars Trilogy.

I feel that way sometimes. And I only have 60 DVDs!

I bought a couple movies that I had never seen before, just because I saw some commercial, and they looked good. They were not good at all.

What I do now is anytime I think I want a movie I DO NOT buy it. I put it down in a Word document. I have like 30 on there. Then a couple weeks later when I go to add another movie, I scan what is on there and usually delete 3 or 4 off there because I realize I don't really want that movie, and would be better off just renting. Really saves me money.

Did I mention I only have 60 DVDs?

My worst offense- buying the first season of Sex and the City because I thought the packaging looked cool!

Between coupons, ebates, cash back credit cards, gift certificates bought with additional coupons, etc., I average $11.75 a DVD. Keep in mind that most of my collection was built 1997-2000... So, the dot-com era was in full swing and discounts were everywhere. Still, if you hunt you can get DVDs still for 50-75% off MSRP. My latest CDNOW batch was done at 79% off. 30% standard discount + 15% coupon + 32% gift certificate discount + 2% cashback on my credit card.

I think I may have you all beat. Did anyone of you ever buy a dvd because you liked the disc artwork and thought it would be cool for a coaster on your coffee table? I did. A coaster for 20 bucks. No wonder I'm broke.
