When I did an XP SP2 upgrade some of my icons changed or disappeared, notably the disc icon for an ISO file. How do I get these back?

    TIA

I had a similar problem my Desktop Icons always changed or went blank, It turned out Windows Media Player 9 was the cause of it, I had to close WMP 9 then the Icons refreshed.
I fixed the problem when I went to WMP 10.

You could also try Tweak UI for XP it is found here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

to fix click Logon then Repair at the bottom left when you run Tweak UI, you will be able to repair your Icons.

    Hope that Helped you!!

It sounds to me like they are gone (that is removed) and you are going to have to create shortcuts for them yourself.

It sounds like he may have clicked the "you have unused icons on your desktop, would you like windows to remove them?" option.

Try this out. Or go to help and support on your pc, and search for "restore shortcuts", make sure you click the Microsot Knowledge base bar at the bottom of the search results window. Good luck.

    Ok....

LaMarcus: Although the direction you sent me in did not fix it, it gave me insight as to how to do it!!! basically put me on the right track..thanks!!!

Never EVER clicked the Delete Icons thingie. What happened is I clicked the file, and somehow got to where I could pick an icon for it and fixed it. Dunno exactly how, but it worked! Thanks to all for input.
