I like those and have looked at them also. I've been reading lately, that DOLBY ATMOS is recommending users not to put existing surrounds up at the ceiling but 1.5 the way up the side and rear walls to lessen bleed-through. :P

Just use all the same speakers or medium size bookshelf's fitted to the ceiling with bit more lower end and fit a crossover in place Use the RCA outputs ditch the AVR own amps. Use an outboard active crossover or DSP crossover so some bass management can be allied and filter of the rest of the deeper low end bolt 18" JBL to the ceiling lol just make sure to COACH BOLTS into the ceiling joists, otherwise you'd be wearing it if came lose or worse! It would be fatal if that fell on you!

I have caught him a times jumping up from kitchen sink to the projector stand and asked him to get down. Now I know. He was trying to walk over to AVR amps to lay on them for some warmth.

Screen samples and bit of fun for the early morning hours.

Non perf screen
Normal perf screen
Super micro screen
Spandex fabric

I found a simple familiar colour test card and placed the screen material over the laptop screen.

Spandex and I don't have eight arms like an octopus to stretch it out evenly enough and take picture at same time.

The plastic screens make me feel sick. they give off smell. I can still smell them even thou placed in the cupboard and I need to wash my hands I can smell the screen on my hands. (1 min later that's better my hands don't smell plastic no more, it was turning my stomach).

Farewell my old Sony CRT friend watched some cool films on you. :( Its the tv graveyard down at the tip. Well nothing wrong being sentimental. :P

Last picture I took of the Sony CRT behind the flat screen placed in front that I used for a few days, that I usually use as pc monitor so that I may see more rather than small text on laptop on my lap, that is now placed back in the kitchen with all the cables VGA to the flat screen.

^^Above might be the CAV or SE '97 AC-3 I need to find which laserdisc was played a few yeas ago.

STAR WARS laserdisc CBS/FOX CLV edition letterbox on the Sony CRT taken with fujifilm S4400 TEXT mode, taken over a year ago. There is a bit of overscan on the Sony CRT.

10262100_10152884187025149_6654858947486962036_n.jpg

LG HD tv with upscale from the Onyko TH SR-875 set at 1080p 60Hz, taken with fujifilm S9200 Manual mode ISO 800. I can see a bit more fuller frame of the scope.

Overall STAR WARS CBS/FOX LD looks great.

STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE laserdisc to DVD-RW has been played at least 7 times since Saturday evening.

ISO setting a bit too low.

I later this morning used the THX calibration disc bluray to align tint with blue glasses as well as colour and setting contrast for whites and brightness for blacks to set the THX logo into shadow. A few other settings are in the (advance) features.

Zoom 1 and 2 is neat with zoom 2 that does a kinder morphing effect at stretching the image to fit the whole screen I prefer a little zoom in on scope film and setting needs to be readjusted when playing a 16:9.

Another JBL 8330 arrived a few days ago from Twickenham studios.
It has small loosened front on the baffle due to those who can't read what FRAGILE means? Its a simple repair job with No nails and a little extra maybe black flat head screws flush mounted maybe depends if the No Nails gets a good grip. I'll repair over the weekend.

Otherwise in working order, cloth grill is in good condition.

x3 more to get now.

Install starts on 18th December next week 2014 and will be completed around late January 2015.

STAR WARS laserdisc CBS/FOX letterbox edition.

10367583_10152893731610149_8656768579706982675_n.jpg

Upscale via the Onkyo TH SR-875 1080p on HDMI 1

1503899_10152893731735149_5125204884397951799_n.jpg

Downscale via the Onkyo TH SR-875 video output to AVR 1

The downscale picture contrast got a bit over bright, while upscale 1080p looked fine. Might be the frequency of the brightness on the downscale that confused the camera.

Looking into the LG as way, way more parameter picture settings

This seems affordable enough. I'd consider this for next year.

They sound/feel great they defuse and provide uniform coverage even with back side wall ones the back surrounds only used with EX or 6.1 and 7.1.

Bass is felt across the seating. Mid-range and tweeter sound smooth even with frequency sweep check for any rattle now they are fitted on the walls. All check out fine.

Wow, Andy!

That looks like a lot of gear for such a space. Must sound amazing.

Bet if you turned it all the way up (whatever THAT means) the sound would come out of those ceiling speakers like thrust from a Saturn Five rocket and lift the top of the room up into the "atmos"phere.

Mike, Proportionally yeah there's enough thrust from the overheads if I want them on as well as below surrounds.

Playing APOLLO 13 (1995) THX LD dts now! Muted the LCR/LFE.1 the dts flying disc at the start had some bass on the JBL 8330 surrounds.

Not using megawatts to get over 100dbC levels. The lows fill the room plentiful from the 12SR to the 8330 to LFE.1 that is used sparingly though the launch chapter 13, most of the low end comes from LCR with now and then some lows on the surrounds.

No problems. Thrust is good, Altitude is on the line Trajectory is on spot on. LFE.1 is used sparingly though the launch.

I don't think you want to be underneath these when starting up. If your not roasted your ears will be ruptured with blood squirting out within less then 2 seconds.

10891594_10152931474955149_1357384572075760985_n.jpg

The gantry arms pulling away one one though centre stage and some pans on right stage all the down the rocket, a cool move to take the camera down that way.

10868051_10152931475630149_8470664596952295877_n.jpg

The vapour blasts along the fronts and into the surrounds, WOW.

1975033_10152931475650149_6778376833303047958_n.jpg

The way the scene cuts and sound thunder, swoops around the room in circle makes feel dizzy.

10354818_10152931475970149_7719644081573491543_n.jpg

The engine bells thunder in a final Kaboom on stage left as hold down arms release the Saturn V with some LFE.1 as well.

The Saturn V, rockets though LCR/LFE.1 to stage right though to the right surround.

Tested JBL 8330 mkII (THX Approved) only with surrounds playing last night with EARTHQUAKE Sensurround dtsHDMA 5.1 / Luasfilm Ltd THX Sound System, LCR/SW was all muted on the Sony SDDS processor so I can monitor the side wall rear. The Earthquake on chapter 9, rumbled a bit more than my previous arrays of JBL control 1.

Display malfunction repair on Christmas day.

Onkyo TH SR-875 repair of display after looking around for some answers and found a thread that showed how to make the repair.

I had some assorted resistors that I found (Gold Black Black Brown) to replace one of the two possible faulty resistors and checking with voltmeter to see which one of the two it is. De-soldered the resistor and replaced with new one.
