I like the swinging screen idea, but I still wouldn't be able to keep the plasma up behind it due to LCR speakers. So I will probably go with the screen wall, built out about 3 feet from the front wall, with speakers in a baffle of some sort - to be determined later. The hinged screen looks like a good idea for your setup.
Its been the biggest compromise since home cinema started. Cinemas don't have too many compromises behind the screen they have plenty of space behind it for more than then usual amount of stage speakers and subs.

Another thing simple and cheaper would be to have Velcro, taped to spandex and wider portion of it stuck to the wooden frame and I can peel up the screen a few inches so I can watch the CRT and when using the projector I need only to stretch the screen a little this way -- and a little that way until its flat and ready.
Other way is to use my projector that has a bit more light output not super great it is its watchable but I can take a chance on some of these LED projectors? There so cheap not sure for sure of cheap or nasty? But I'd take a chance for less than £200.00 to see how it fairs good or bad or worse or about the same with my other projector and they run a bit more quieter and claim to last 20.000 or 50.000 hours.

I'd take chance on one soon...? Won't any worse than the money I spent on some bluray titles I spent on last year that almost total around under £200.00 that are hardly played now.

Thinking about this 3U frame 48 XLR for a customize fitting of the leads cables behind the rack so all can be patched in neatly and then ran off though the cable conduit to the amps other outboard gear in the kitchen.

Of course I'd have to buy separate male/female XLR connectors as cheap as possible. If I decide to go for this It would be mounted on the back of the rack to keep the cable out of sight.

But its only an option idea for now unless I find 1U frame size ones all fitted and cheaply priced, but the metal frame 48 XLR is cheap for the frame.

Looking at some 1U frame PDU power distributor unit to replace the common power extension cable sockets placed behind and some tied to the back of the rack cases.

Prices vary from cheap to x6 way and up x8 some have those 3 pin shaped kettle or what you'd normally find on some AVR plug ins at the back. Up goes the cost as I'd have to fit new cables in. No way. I think I'd go for one that is cheap where I can use the mains leads that have nothing wrong with.

Spend £19.00 on x8 way and another £15.00 or so maybe on new mains leads. When I can have x6 way from £19.80 to £23.00 and buy another and still come in under the cost of going the away around with x8 way. Got look at all the ways around this to cutting the cost down. :P

Although still I can look around and see if I can find some mains cables cheaper enough. The whole idea of fitting these in behind the racks won't improvise my sex life or my ego :P I just want it neat and tidy behind without cables dangling around. Get all the mains cabled tired tightly and away from the audio cables with them cabled tied up tightly.

So many options of more less the same thing at different low prices.

This was cheap £10.00 thou postal £10.00 What! and x1 should arrive this new week coming up. The plug end not a problem I'll change the end but 10 sockets I can tidy up at least 2 to 3 extension sockets behind the rack and fit a new one vertically behind the rack and re-route the mains cables.

Arrived early this week.

I'm not in a hurry to fitting this in. I fit when I have the time.

From the front it looks great. From the back it looks like cable nightmare.

Looks like a Spaghetti Westren of cables. I can hardly see beyond.

Oh, that's a little better. cable management isn't my sort of thing but I'm getting there.

Can't believe some will charge £30.00 for 500 small cable ties and I ordered 400 for £2.45 free/postal.

Ordered another PDU should arrive next week and I can fit that to the other rack and afterwards get some cable management and get the cables sorted with XLR patch bays mounted on the back so I can unplug leads without disrupting any of the other cable/leads.

I must have hundreds of cables/wires literally to run a film? Maybe I should get a home cinema in box instead. :P

I have about ten of these type cables a two more. The rest are two core or three core hardwired into the equipment or two pin leads. Plus lots more cables in the kitchen to the projector and other rack of amps.

I thought i had a lot of cables, you win top prize. :D

I yearn for the day everything is cable free, i know you get some projectors and speakers which are wireless but it's pretty uncommon, it's a nightmare trying to fix cables unless you are into DIY and go behind walls and under floors.

It would never be 100% cable free as each item needs a power source from the mains/electrical. Seen those wireless speakers. Well they'd still need wires/cables between them.

Even my keyboard/mouse are wireless but still I need a USB extension cable poked though the hole in the wall with the dongle on the end to receive the signal. But its good wireless keyboard up 30 feet. Least I don't have cable dangling around my legs and I can freely move the mouse around on the armrest of the cinema seat and use the cupholder to place the mouse in. :)

I am watching this; I am planning out a rack (Samson also) and want to have power units already in place ahead of time, so I don't have to claw-spoon my way through that spaghetti later. :P I also may have a lead on a 3417 if they are willing to sell.

I'd get a taller rack 21U frame Samson might be cheap but there are plenty of 19" Server racks second/hand that can go for less than $120.00 I seen plenty around under £100.00 and some around £150.00 taller but the depth is too deep to place in the room near the chimney breast even the kitchen it would stick out further than the fridge. Needed spend hundreds for a rack all the sizes are universal for 19" gear with rack ears attached to the equipment.

46U frame or bit taller so you can fit enough into it and place second rack elsewhere stacked with amplifiers.

Some racks are pick up or some might be sen off as they are for reasonable low postal.

I have an area already framed out for main equipment rack, so I can go as tall as I need there. I need to add 20 amp dedicated line in that space also, fortunately it's only about 10' from panel. Amp rack will have to be located elsewhere, haven't decided where that will go yet - still planning it out. No hurries, so no worries later.

You can also buy rack bars and make a rack frame with timber and wood need to measure twice and all the gear should fit in.

If you have wall behind as most your homes have plasterboard and stud work you could have area behind the rack where you can get in behind it. I don't have option. Brick walls.

Just yesterday i fitted a new projector screen onto the wall, straight onto the wall, no casing, about time too, i should have had it done and finished a month ago, it means i can mask area's off for 2.35:1 and 4/3 films, unfortunately i had to order new speaker cable so cannot watch a film on it until probably the middle to end of next week, i mention this because i ruined a screen with casing a few months back because it had brick behind the wall and i was expecting plasterboard. :D

My birthday tomorrow too and i was looking forward to watching a film, oh well, next week will come fast.

The other extension cable has been removed as it was in temporary for day until the other PDU arrived.

10696347_10152724730060149_6162202705730787013_n.jpg

I'd have get behind the racks again and move the x2 mains wall socket over a few inches so the edge of rack won't be in the way. Also might have to find way to get the PDU fitted a bit more inside the rack? As its sticking out 3 inches with plugs fitted and I like the racks a bit more tightly placed against the wall. So got figure that one out.

Relaxing now with REMO and evening ready microwave meal.

Happy birthday for tomorrow then in 4 hours. :)

Fitted in wall. Make sure you have ventilation otherwise a heatwave next year might break it down if it builds up too much excessive heat.

I'm planning on getting Jeremy Clarkson to stay in the room next summer, the guy leaves me feeling cold so might have the same effect on the room. :D

Well I might have to look into a air conditioning system for next year. I was drinking at least 2lites of fruit squash and Orange juice a day.

My idea screen array :P 12 screen horizontal. Discrete channels playing dialogue music and effects would have greater range on there own in each channel.

45 super screen channels this would be the atmos ticket for ultimate screen channels. :P
