Okay, this is my first post, I have been lurking around between the rooms reading reviews on speakers/ recievers. I was a huge BOSE fan until I found this forum. Now I believe that most of you would battle me on how perfect they are. I am Stuck in Iraq now and will be returning home in about 3 weeks. I am building a home theater system and am looking to order them to be at home when I get there. I have a 15 x 12 room in the basement that is unfinished that will be my theater room. concrete wall on 2 sides and wood/frame/drywall on the others. avg ceiling height. I have definitely decided on an svs subwoofer because i love bass. This system will be about 50/50 for music and theater. I will go with a 5.1 system and possible upgrade to 7.1 with more speakers. My budget for the front/rear and center is 1200.00 (to the house). I read alot about Axiom and Aperion for bang for the buck value. I have read so much that my head is spinning. Can somebody please help me spend this money! I NEED HELP. Receiver advice is also welcome pertaining to the speakers you suggest.

Thanks TOny

Welcome to the forum! :D The forum populace will tell you to do some homework (figuratively, since it won't be done in the home) before you buy. You ought to audition some speakers. $1200 is a good amount of money to spend and you have options, but you don't want to spend it and not like the results. Buying speakers involves listening to find out what you like. Welcome back to the States. Thanks for serving your country (I'm assuming you are military)!

If you want to go internet direct for speakers like you are going to do for the sub, I would look at Aperion, Ascend Acoustics, Axiom, HTD, Rocket, and Swan. If you plan on buying from a B&M, take a look at B&W, Paradigm, DefTech, and NHT. Personally, I own Ascend Acoustics and love them, but to each his own. Better is in the ear of the beholder. By the way, thank you for your service.

Hello Tony

You may also want to check out Athenas as well. I find them to by a great speaker for the money. But as most of the folks here will tell you. The 3 most important things in buying speakers is 1) listen 2) listen 3) listen. I would also like to wish you a happy home coming. Thank You

wow! Thanks for all of the advice. I guess that I will just have to wait to get home to listen to some, I knew for sure by all of the great comments on the svs sub that It was a no- brainer. Any ideas on an entry level receiver? I am one of those people that will probably not obsess about small indifferences and the ability to adjust every little thing. I am more about clean clear power and a simple to use receiver. I have had great luck with denon and kenwood in the past and prefer these two brands. for the rear speakers, I really like the idea of smaller ones , at one point I even considered the Bose 191's to hide in the wall. (i know most of you hate bose though). Anyways , thanks for the good advice so far. As far as those that have thanked me for the service I do, all I can say is that I just got lucky to be able to come over and support the troops in any way that I could. I am not doing anything that any other great American would do if given the opportunity. I am in a pretty safe place and there are those over here who have it much worse off than myself. I cant wait to get home but will miss all of the courageous people that I leave behind. Please keep them in your prayers. Thanks again

Tony

Hi Tony,

A big THANKS for your service, and please pass that along to the other troops over there for me! :)
We support the troops and the war against these terrorist enemies and those that help them.
Ignore the few idiots you see on the news that say differently, they do not represent America.

Any of the brands mentioned here will give you good sound, just go with what appeals to you the most.

I looked around and found these prices, I like the reviews but not so hot on the asthetics, I really like the cabinets on the axioms and the aperion's but the reviews given to this system seems unbeatable. My other problem is that I want in walls for the rears, will this be ok? Any suggestions for inwall-rears that will match well with these speakers?
