Muppets

Can I speculate that there maybe some more Muppets on DVD in the future? Surely there is potential.

Fraggle Rock, Season by Season, please! ;)

I would imagine that DVD releases will still be handled by the film companies with which contracts were signed at the appropriate time. The transfer of The Jim Henson Co. doesn't somehow invalidate all prior contracts.

I too think that prior productions are wholly the responsibility of the individual studios responsible. This bodes well for the future though. I hope Brian already has plans for another feature or TV series.

I too hope we'll get Fraggle Rock, Storyteller, The Jim Henson Hour, Muppets Tonight, and The Muppet Show in full season sets. I also hope we'll get all the movies in OAR. Columbia did beautifully, why can't Disney offer the same?

But Muppet Treasure Island is P&S in R1, therefore may as well not be available, as is Christmas Carol

Nothing will change with current video deals

Damin and Jeff are probably right about this not changing any video rights, but I sure with that it did. I want The Muppet Show in season-by-season sets.

And I sure wish that this change would mean widescreen versions of the two Disney ones. But if it doesn't, then Disney seems perfectly content without my money.

I just hope they get someone with Buisness sense instilled into the company. When I first heard about this EM T.V. deal, I thought something was fishy right off the bat. Why would a German company, no one has ever heard of before, suddenly buy the biggest and most recognizable puppet franchise in the world?

I wasn't really surprised when the company didn't deliver and went belly up a few years later. Lets hope they learn from their mistakes and don't do it again..

But this is good news. I just wish that they could create their own DVD Authoring factory and release their programs on DVD themselves...

Neil, it has nothing to do with that. Anyone can hire an authoring facility. The problem lies in getting the titles distributed.

I have picked up all 15 of the Muppet Show DVDs offered by Time Life Video. Each one contains 3 episodes, with introductions by Brian Henson. The individual DVDs are starting to pop up in video stores, but only the first two are available so far, to my knowledge. If you go to the Time Life website, you can get all 15, if you want them. Personally, I love them. There are bits in here I've been looking for for years - Fozzie's magic act, Gonzo eating a tire onstage, Mahna Mahna, James Coburn trying to tame Animal, etc, etc, etc.

Kevin --

The first four, actually -- first the Mark Hamill & Elton John discs, and then, a little later, they released Peter Sellers and Harry Belafonte. I bought all of 'em, but got tired of waiting for the other 11 to come out, so I did the same thing you did...should have 'em in a week or two!

Now that I took that plunge, I expect an announcement of new, season-by-season sets...

Storyteller is coming! Expect complete info in 30 days. That's all I can tell you for now...
I'm doing the first of what I hope are many Henson Happy Dances. Now I have to cross my fingers for 30 days that we'll be looking at a complete release for this title.
