Could it be Disney has heard our cries, and while not fixing the current problem has at least listened for Christmas Carol?
According to The R2 Project, their version will be widescreen and have the following extras as reviewed by the BBFC
    http://www.r2-dvd.org/article.jsp?se...articleId=4461
Muppet Christmas Carol" - DVD Audio Commentary Widescreen
"Muppet Christmas Carol" - DVD Additional Material
00:02:56:03 | CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD
    00:02:31:20 | ON THE SET
00:20:32:16 | FROGS PIGS AND HUMBUG
Oh please oh please, I want to buy it!

    great news [IMG]
i asked disney UK a while ago about the two muppet films, thinking region 2 is usually a little more widescreen savy.
    received this reply :

Muppet Christmas Carol will be released on DVD 18th November, as yet we do not have the spec for this DVD, so I can not advise you of the ratio. If the States have released it in full screen format then it usually follows that we will do the same.
There are no plans for the release of Muppet Treasure Island in the foreseeable future.

strange how the region 1 is full screen, yet the region 2 will now be wide. but sadly, no plans for treasure island. same goes for Natty Gann, another title i asked about [IMG]

If Muppet Christmas Carol is widescreen in R2, I might just get it. It'd be my first R2 DVD, and I'd only be able to watch it on the DVD-ROM, but still. I should also think about getting the R2 Jungle 2 Jungle DVD, which is 16:9 widescreen, whereas its R1 counterpart will not be.

If they release Muppet X-mas Carol in R2 in widescreen and not in R1... then I'm definately getting a Malata and buying the R2 version... screw Disney.. this is retarted!

Columbia have released several titles in anamorphic widescreen in R2 at the same time as releasing open matte or P&S versions in R1, so perhaps Disney is doing the same. I know the proliferation of widescreen sets is far greater in Europe than North America, so this is probably the driver here.

why not consider importing a player from the UK ? multi-region is practically a standard over here, and you can pick up a player for around the equivalent of $100. even with shipping, and maybe import duty, it could work out cheaper.

Andy, because the Malata has the PAL-NTSC conversion built in. As far as I understand it, most UK TV's will support both PAL and NTSC, but in the US and Canada, the TV's ONLY support NTSC, so having a converter is a good idea.

Yes, US TVs will not do PAL period, with the exception of 1 set that I know about (SRP $999) and projectors. While many UK TV sets do both without blinking

    sorry, i didn't realise. :b
i'm surprised that's the state of play though. what's up with the US these days ? slow uptake of widescreen, few NTSC/PAL tvs, few multi-region players, increasing rate of P&S. it's very sad to see.
in that case, $275 is a small price to pay for freedom [IMG]
EDIT : actually, some players allow you to output NTSC, so it might still be worth checking out [IMG]

I can confirm right now that it's P&S and a horrible transfer to boot

Muppet Treasure Island in the UK MAY be widescreen however

My family and I very much want to buy Muppet Christmas Carol on DVD. However, it will not be happening if it's not widescreen. I'm very anxious to see the "rest" of the film, since I've only seen the P&S version at my in-laws. I will definitely never purchase a P&S DVD -- regardless of how much I like the film!!!

I am very disappointed. This is my favorite post-Henson Muppet film. It has a lot of heart even though it lacks Henson's off-the-wall sense of humor.

It's Disney's loss though. My cash is perfectly happy right here in my pocket.

I swear that someone on the Disney help line said it was going to be widescreen due to the complaints about Muppet Treasure Island...
