Let me tell you a little story... the week The Munsters DVD was released I went out to Target and bought the DVD. I came home, watched it all, found out that the last episode skips quite a bit, and decided to take it back so I could exchange it for a new one.

By the time I took it back for an exchange Target was out of stock. They said that the shipment of The Musnters Complete First Season was the only one they intended to buy. So, now, I have a defective DVD and nowhere to return it.

This really disappointments me. I just want to know if this is common. Are there companies out there who, using my situation, order one stock and when it's sold out do not order any more. This could be detrimental to sales statistics.

Just a thought.

Jeez, I would think they'd at least give you a cash refund or store credit under these circumstances...

Chris:L,

Get in contact with Universal Home Video's consumer line and get the faulty disc replaced. I've done this with various studios when I get one bad disc in a box set.

Hopefully, one of these two numbers is still correct:

Gheez that's kind of crappy, seems like they would want to order at least one more shipment if it sold out. I think the store manager could use a few lessons on keeping hot sellers..lol..no wonder some of these sets don't get good sales figures. no product. I know my Best Buy for example never got a second order of MTM show after it sold out, kind of hard to gradually increase sales if it's not available, kills impulse sales as well. Before you say it ..Yes I know there are other stores..but Best Buy is the cheapest around here and the biggest stock. Media Play is insanely expensive for DVD's, and not everyone likes to order online.
I think just as studios are still learning how to handle the TV DVD market so are stores.

Chris, good luck with the exchange, wow that would have to suck.

I'm not sure though that this practice of not ordering more than one shipment is a large factor in poor sales of a set. I don't know if this is a common practice among stores or not, and besides if a person really wanted the show they'd find the way to get it from a place like Amazon.com or what have you, so I really don't think there's a bunch of people that went to the store 3 months after MTM season 1 came out only to find that the store had sold out and wasn't going to order more. Besides, I've heard of people who even now can find copies of it on the shelves at local retailers.

Although, I do agree that the practice does seem a little odd if something is flying off the shelves, it makes sense to order more. If they were say to only sell like 1 copy every couple of weeks, that's a different story but that's probably not what happened at Chris' target location.

Again though, good luck on getting your disc exchanged.

The Target here has the same policy. They will not reorder a box set after their initial shipment unless the copies are "flying off the shelves". I've always noticed that their stock is the very best sellers(Friends, Buffy, Indy, The Godfather), that week's new releases, and the stragglers that don't move. I went in after Columbo-Season 1. They were sold out. It took them less than three weeks to sell all copies. I was told that wasn't fast enough and there would be no more. They want to keep the box set inventory low since the physical size and higher price can cause a pile-up that they don't want. Our local store limits box sets to two small four-sided racks. Whether this is a local policy or nationwide, I don't know.

So let me get this straight,

If Target gets The Munsters, Season 2 and they don't sell enough copies on the first shipment, they will never, never, ever get more of The Munsters Season 2?

Guys, I work at Target. Target operates the same way as most other stores. If they do not have a replacement copy for the DVD purchase you made they will either exchange it for a different DVD or offer you a store credit for it. Just ask to talk to the GSTL (Guest Service Team Lead) or ask to talk to one of their LOD's Team Lead on Duty).

Trust me, from the way you're saying that you specified a certain set. Target only gets what they are sent from their DC (Distribution Center).

Mark, does Target have a price matching policy? I found another store has a cheaper price this week advertised in the Sunday ads. Can I bring in another store's advertised price and will Target match their price? Thanks.

Target will match an advertised price but only if the other store still has it in stock.

Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean were all suffering. Everybody has had a bad experience at retail store...shit happens. DId you try going to another Target to exchange it? Target returns do not have to be taken to the place of purchase. I'm not sure what the situation is like in your area but in my area there is 1 - 2 Target stores in every major town.
