We are starting to plan a home theater. My husband has some trouble hearing the TV, and we need to have closed captions. I'd really love to have a BIG screen.

Is there any way of getting closed captions to show on a multi-media projector system?

    TIA,
    JudyB

    Hi JudyB,

Closed captioning is part of the feed on every cable/satelite signal.

All TV's with 13" tubes/screens have the decoder built in (US Law believe it or not) but most low end projectors don't have tuners, even for basic TV/Cable signals. However, decoders can be picked up almost anywhere and most VCR and some DVD units have them built in. If you have digital cable or satelite TV, there should be a decoder built into the box and you would control closed captioning from there. The docoder would simply be feeding your projector the signal.

I tried it on my unit and I can get closed captioning through my VCR (regular cable) and Satelite box using each units remote.

If you want more information on closed captioning, this website should prove useful: http://www.robson.org/capfaq/

    Cheers,

    JB
