I've noticed at times the blue light (multi-channel decoding indicator) will flash on and off occasionally

Note that when the DVD goes from one chapter to another (usually between scenes), when it switches layers (often in the middle of a scene, but only once per DVD), or when you do anything else that may disrupt the flow of the audio/video, the indicator may blink out for a short time.
