According to a story I just heard on CNN, MTV will publish two issues of a trial magazine, MTV Magazine, this fall. The first issue will come out in October, followed by the second issue in December. MTV claims that the magazine will cover "spanking new music" (possibly [IMG] ) as well as DVDs, movies, and games. One of the CNN anchors echoed my sentiments -- how ironic that MTV, which rarely shows music videos, is doing a magazine that primarily covers music. [IMG]

It will be interesting to see how this magazine turns out. I'm sure it will not give ICE a run for its money. [IMG]

I hope it fails miserably. MTV has done more damage in the past 10 yrs of their existence than any other driving force of the music industry.

It can't fail. It's MTV! Imagine how many screaming teenage girls will get this mag.

No, so they can look at pictures of Good Charlotte and other popular bands, and they need to learn about what is "cool" in the eyes of the record companies.

You've never heard of Good Charlotte? Wow, you must really be out of the popular scene. [IMG]

Good Charlotte is yet another in a long line of sounds-the-same bands that have been being shoveled out the past few years. As usual, they push loudness or "darkness" over substance

Jeff pretty much nailed it on the head. The only reason they are around is because of Green Day and The Offspring.

However, they don't push darkness as much as they do rebellion. The reason why they appeal to teenagers is because of their rebellious lyrics and attitude. Just take a look at the lyrics to "The Anthem". They also push punk as what clothes you wear or how your hair looks.

There are actually some bands in this generally dry and monotonous. Such as Sum 41 (post All Killer, No Filler), Bowling For Soup, Green Day, Alien Ant Farm, Millencolin, The Offspring, AFI, Reel Big Fish, and Less Than Jake.

And [rant]DAMN[/rant] proud of it too! Hell, who needs all these dime-a-gross bands that can't come near to emulating the doom of Black Sabbath or Soundgarden!
