MST3K: Which episodes can we (and can we not) expect on DVD? (1 Viewer)

This is pretty funny stuff man. I admit I've only seen one and that being Mitchell. My friends fastforwarded through the interstitals on the ship. The funniest moment for me was the gun falling out of his pants. "My Roscoe!". Anyway, I know there has been like 15 episodes released so far on DVD and though I know close to nothing about the show, I do know that there are some we can't see because of rights. So which episodes is it safe to say will see the light of DVD and which ones will not?

A safe bet would be that %75 of the episodes will never see the light of day in commercial release. Although an email placed to yours truly would provide a link to a few people that have made their personal collections available on DVD.

In many ways, the private collections are better than commercial releases. It is possible to obtain special features, rare material, original commercials, and other cool things. Considering most collectors sell their DVD episodes for under $10... you do the math for over 200 episodes.

The Sci Fi Channel doesnt even have the rights to air most of their episodes anymore, so the chances of them releasing to DVD are slim.
Of the 48 episodes created for the Sci Fi Channel, only about 25 or so can still be legally aired.

Most of the AIP films will never be released again, nor Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, due to the not-so-good relations between MGM (who owns them) and WB (who owns Rhino). I do know that the older ones are not owned by MGM, so they COULD be safe.

The two Godzilla films will never be released again, due to Toho's tight legal lockdown on all their titles.

Gorgo may not be released again (and it only aired once on Sci-Fi Channel, BTW).

Alien from L.A....I dunno. Both WB and MGM own Cannon titles, and it's just a matter of who owns it. If it's WB, it could come to DVD. If it's MGM, it won't.

I was such a dolt, I erased season 2, added it back, which now gives a 199 episodes figure.
I figured Alien From L.A. was safe since its Cannon, but now that I think about it, MGM owns most of the Cannon movies now

I suggest buying all of the DVD's out now.
You will quickly get addicted!
But if you only want to get two right now, I suggest Manos(as it's refrenced alot on other MST3K episodes and the Movie, plus MST3K does their own version of a main character from Manos, that shows up in ALOT of the episodes)
and of course Mitchell
I'm getting the box set for X-mas.
Can hardly wait.

I have about 130 episodes on VHS and I'd love to get some different ones on DVD (particularly Diabolik and Laserblast), and I've seriously considered those "burn your own" sites before... If I was a billionaire, I'd give whoever whatever amount of money they needed to get all of these on DVD.

These episodes are free as they should be (keep sharing the tapes) plus they are unofficially endorsed by the brains themselves. Visit http://www.dapcentral.org for more information on what episodes are available and how to obtain them. Note: Once an episode has been released by rhino, they will not be distributed on the dap servers. They've even released many hard to find episodes from the KTMA era.

Mike, I'm having trouble downloading them. Everytime I click on them it says "page cannot be displayed". Sometimes it won't do anything when I click on them. Is their server down or something?

It is some what difficult to get going downloading from the dap. They us eDonkey and are very picky about what you can share and what servers you can have. Also it can be very slow. But it is great to get these shows in a digital format and for free.

and currently I am re-watching Catalina Caper
and boy is it bad.
but any movie that stars Tommy Kirk and Little Richard can't be good
I also like the little rocket ship tab and character quote wheel on the box.
Kind of a nice way to add design to the box sets.
