Any word as to whether Universal will be re-releasing Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie under their own label with a new transfer (The Image DVD wasn't all that great, I.E. compression artifacts)?

To my knowledge, Universal has no publicized plans to revisit this one. It would be nice tho... [IMG]

I agree, the image is really nice! even the PCM DPL track sounds good!

I'd love to see extras though...

There are deleted scenes for the movie, but there will be no commentary track(BB sees the entire movie as a commentary [IMG] ). I wouldn't be suprised if the Brains had a lot of behind the scenes footage though.

There's actually enough stuff around to make an SE for MST3K: TM.
First, Universal could put the original DTS track on, make the transfer 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen. (Yes, the OAR is 1.85:1, but This Island Earth is 1.66:1. This would much better present the movie by simply opening the matte a little.)
There's an alternate ending, the original TIE movie, plus a good bit of publicity stuff. There's also a few deleted scenes.
I'd like to see Criterion get their hands on this one, actually. [IMG]

The movie was in DTS Stereo if I recall. No point in using DTS over PCM, since PCM is higher fidelity

The Image version of this title is very good for being non-anamorphic, and is especially good considering it is an older DVD release.

I have it and the OOP This Island Earth collected together in a double keep case with custom artwork as a "Ultimate Edtition" of sorts.

Perhaps when Universal does get around to releasing This Island Earth, they could put both movies togeteher in a single or dual disc set.
