Come to #Satelliteoflove over at irc.scifi.com port 6667 (IF you don't have IRC software, come to www.scifi.com go to "chat" and then chat now. Select #Deep13 as the chatroom)
On Friday night (17th)@ 11 PM EST, Idle Hands.
Saturday night (18th) 11 PM EST, Tremors 3
All are welcome and all you need is a copy of the movie either on DVD or tape (or LD or beta or 8mm or 16mm or zoetrope...)
The point is basically making fun of a movie using the chat program while watching the movie...just like on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Have fun, won't you?

I think your idea is pretty interesting, but I warn you that asking a bunch of people to synchronise their videos will be very tough. First off, if you play a VHS copy of these movies side-by-side with a DVD, the chances of them getting off a couple minutes by the end are pretty strong.
I know not everyone gets cable/broadcast networks at the same time, but I would suggest trying something like this with a movie on TV. People with DirecTV or Dish Network can get movies at the same time across the country, right? And I've noticed many digital cable systems are adding East and West movie networks like HBO and Showtime.

Actually, this was very effective for Big Trouble in Little China. And the IRC delay kind of negated any minor errors.
Damn. I have to rent both of those. I'll try to be there.

This is a very interesting and creative idea. Though I am wondering about the logistics. It seems timing is so important with MST3K humor. If there's a large turnout, how will people's responses get queued?

We had a couple of duplicate jokes, but several different takes. It had me laughing, but it was probably easiest with a movie we were all familiar with.
