    Hi Gang!

Well, I have been blessed with another role in an upcoming movie. This time, I am playing the part of a German male nurse who gets horribly abused by his employer. I don't have all the details at the moment, but it sounds pretty cool and challenging.

However, I need to adopt a German accent. I am counting on my enlightened brothers and sisters of the HTF to help me out by listing several movies that feature characters speaking English with German accents.

    Any/all help is greatly appreciated!

    Anything with Marlene Dietrich.

Try Witness for the Prosecution for an accent that is not overdone.

Anything with Peter Lorre. Besides him, Casablanca has lots of German accents, real and otherwise.

Good luck on the part and the film.

Jeremy Irons and Alan Rickman spoke with German accents in their Die Hard roles. I'm not sure how accurate they truly are, though.

Franke Potente in The Bourne Identity. Probably a better choice since she's actually German [IMG]

What ever you do don't use "Shadow of the Vampire" these are some of the worst fake German accents I have ever heard I saw the English version of this film here in Berlin and the mostly German audience could not stop laughing it made the film almost unwatchable, I wish I had seen the dubbed version.
You might try "The Blue Angel" not only a great film but was filmed twice once in English and once in German so you are getting real Germans speaking English.

Das Boot would be great! Didn't they use real German actors though? [IMG]

The first season of Lexx is good too...although I'm not sure if you wanted to imitate the lead actress' accent. But she is a real german though. [IMG]

Have you watched any of the films by Sean Connery? I believe he did a German accent in that...no wait, maybe it was Russian...Japanese...West Indies? Hmmm, perhaps not.

Some funny roles with German accents:
Michael Caine as Dr. Emil Shuffhausen in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
    Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles

On more serious notes, the prisoner in Saving Private Ryan might be a good choice depending on the role.

You may want to try something like Udo Kier or Stellan Skarsgard (I know he isn't German). I think they have good accents.

    Apt Pupil.

Oh, and if you can find Silent Night (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0338434) a Made for TV movie from here in Canada, with Linda Hamilton, they do very good accents, as well as German. Even different dialects.

How about Peter Sellers as Dr. Strangelove? Or the German nihilists in the Big Lebowski.

Top Secret is probably your best bet. Killer German accents (esp. when sliding up fire poles[IMG] )

Some actors with very distinguished and different German accents:

    Udo Kier
    Armi Mueller-Stahl
    Klaus Kinski
    Jurgen Prochnow
    Til Schweiger
    Nastassja Kinski
    Bruno Ganz

And also take a look at some old Sprockets clips from SNL. Good idea of the Black-wearing, monkey loving crowd. [IMG]

What about Run Lola Run and The Princess and the Warrior - not only do you get authentic German accents but you get to watch 2 excellent films in the process.
