I have some friends who are going to separated for a few months. I know they are going to miss each other terribly and I was hoping that you could recommend a romantic movie where a couple is separated and are happily rejoined in the end. My hope is that it will bring them some comfort during this tough time. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Well definitely not Cast Away. :b

Serendipity kinda has that. A couple reunite years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated, convinced that one day they'd end up together.

Can't think of anything else off hand.

OK, call me sappy and tell me I don't know great cinema...but..

I think "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra is an absolutely beautiful movie.

In case you haven't seen the movie: They DIE and are reunited...one saving the other from Hell.

    It's powerful stuff.

What about "The Story Of Us"?

This one does have them start out as a couple, separate and then get back together. I think it shows real well how, sure there may be things a couple grows tired of regarding their spouse, but if they really look long and hard at their relationship, there are more reasons to stay together, than to split up.

Well most movies don't have them start off as a couple and then separate, but the following are the closest I can think of:

    An Affair to Remember
    Indiscreet
    When Harry Met Sally

then there are three versions of a film that doesn't fit exactly, but still might make them feel good watching, since true love works in the end

    You've Got Mail
    In the Good Old Summertime
    The Shop Around the Corner

and some have them breaking up and then getting back together, which isn't the same thing:

    The Philadelphia Story

and some would be too depressing:

    Somewhere in Time

Well, the two that came to my mind have already been mentioned, so I'll just put them up here:

    An Affair to Remember
    Somewhere in Time

Another one to add to the list is Titanic, depending on your intrepretation of the ending. James Cameron said it himself that it was deliberately left open to interpretation, so to quote him, "Does Rose die at the end of the film, or is she merely dreaming? You be the judge." So either way you look at it, she's reunited with Jack.
