1. Wag the Dog: Granted, I didn't have my usual "100% movie-attention" focus, but...what the HELL kind of ending was THAT? BOY did that irk me, all the more so because so many people claimed this was a great movie. Ooooh, this one pisses me off more than any. Perhaps I should see it again soon; maybe watching it intently the next time will bring out things I missed that will allow me to accept such an abrupt and uncalled-for resolution to an otherwies good film.
2. From Dusk Till Dawn: Ugh. Great first half, lousy second half...shitty ending. One of the worst in my collection of 1100 DVDs.
3. In the Bedroom: I didn't hate this movie's ending per se; in fact, given the circumstances presented in the last quarter, I understand it -- it fits. However, this movie was predicated on character interaction -- relationship-building at its finest. And because of that, I felt that far too much emphasis was placed on the boy's father, and not nearly enough on Tomei's character, whom I expected to be an integral part of its conclusion. *Sigh*...a great film weakened significantly by its resolution (though not enough to bump it out of my top 10 for 2001).
I was not bothered by the ending of Sphere.
More as I think of them...

Ah, Sphere.

Well, if the ending of the movie is anything like the ending of the novel, then I'm in complete agreement with the rest of you. I hated the way the book ended, and so I had no desire to see the movie version. From what I've heard, I'm glad I didn't see it!!

But anyway the whole thing at the end with James Woods trying to prove that she had lied about the trip. Maybe it didn't ruin the movie but it sure sucked the excitement out of it for me.
I thought the ending of Contact wrapped up the film's conflict between science and faith. Without the scenes which followed her return, the meaning of the film would appear much different.

The first movie I can recall hating the ending of was 'The Color of Money.' I'll allow that I probably could have benefitted from a thorough knowledge of 'The Hustler.' But the movie moved sluggishly for so long, and that 'I'm Back' and cut to credits was so jarring. Just when it looked to get interesting.

Also hated the overwrought death scene in 'Dead Again.' Well acted, atmospheric and suspenseful right up until the 'bad guy' refused to die. Reminded me of the 'death of Rasputin' sketch on SNL. I can still recall the audience laughing as he arose time after time, until finally falling on the huge scissors.

I absolute hated the ending of Unbreakable...

I sat through 2 hours of a most boring buildup to get such a dumb ending as to the explanation of the two superheroes (one good and one bad).

The ending was so over-dramatic that I actually gagged.
Also, I am going to have to agree with Derek regarding the ending of Contact. It really resolved those issues for the film's sake. I just hope the reason why people didn't like it is because of the lack of slimey aliens.

Gotta agree with Eve about Pay it Forward. I thought it was a fantastic movie and was bout ready to give it 10 :star:s in my likeability book. But then that lame-o, cliche ending happened. IMHO the ending of that movie was basically plagerized from the 4 Gospels from the worlds oldest book. Totally ticked me off, why do producers always have to turn the main character in movies like that into Christ figures. Due to the ending, that waste of celluloid gets a big fat whopping 0.
I only place I need to see that particular ending happen is in the Bible, thank you very much. :)

LA Confidential

I think they should have ended it in the hotel parking lot with the police arriving. I think the additional 10 minutes to explain everything and tie up loose ends weren't needed.

I am surprised no one has mentioned The Green Berets. Only John Wayne could pull off a sun setting in the east

I agree with Jurasic Park but only because I thought the owner should have ended up the same way he did in the book. More poetic that way.

Some good ones so far. I agree alot with Vanilla Sky. Did Crowe feel we were a stupid audience that need everything explained to them?
Some others:
Hollow Man: Verhoeven has a pretty decent B-movie going till he went for the standard slasher ending.
Space Cowboys: A fun film that get serious and dumb at the same time.
Frequency: What a copout.
Finding Forrester: I actually yelled at my screen But he's still guilty of plagiarism.

The Family Man: Another copout, not that I was loving the film to begin with.
Dinosaur: Disney at it political correct worst.
Cast Away: I can watch the part on the island all day long but I have to turn it off once he gets rescued.

I just remembered the absolute worst ending I've ever seen - Rules of Engagement. This racist, piece of trash ending is the kind of disgusting propaganda Goebbels would be proud of.

At the end we find out that little Arab kids are all just cold-blooded murderers, and that U.S. soldiers who committed atrocities in Vietnam have the admiration of the Viet Cong.

My worst was Saving Private Ryan. Complete and utter trash. Not only did the ending not make any sense, it slapped us in the face with flag-waving pablum nonsense. The film was patriotic, people get it, you don't need to whack them on the head with it Steven.

I'm surprised somebody mentioned The Usual Suspects. It's one of the best IMHO. Same with Saving Private Ryan.
TV version of Brazil
- I'm not a big fan of Brazil, but I do possess the Criterion Collection, and have seen both. Ugh, that ending to the TV version sucks and blows.
Die Hard
- Actually, I only hate one part of this ending. Sure I can accept surprises. Sure I can accept people coming back from the dead to haunt the living. But what I can't accept is that the coroners somehow got it into their heads to put a body into a body bag armed with a rifle. Think about it people. A guy comes back from the dead ARMED WITH A RIFLE!!! The fact that he's fully armed bugs the living s**t out of me. No, not that he comes back doesn't bother me. HE COMES BACK ARMED!!!

I don't think he was in a body bag in the end of "Die Hard." I think he was being escorted out of the building by firefighters with him wrapped in a blanket. If you can accept the rest of the unbelievable movie, I don't see how him hiding a full sized gun under a tiny blanket would be cause that much disbelief! :D
For me, the ending that didn't do it for me was the last few seconds of After Hours. I know, mabye I didn't "get it" but I thought the urban hell that the lead had gone through was too cool to just throw away like that. I haven't seen this flick in ages. Maybe I need to see it again. I first saw it as a teen and remember it taking me out of the moment.
The greatest "Bad" ending was in
Godzilla 2000 where one of the characters utters the line "There is a little Godizilla in all of us." Pure poetry...but a god-awful ending. Sheesh.
