Well, what do you think?
Try Camille or any other melodrama made in Hollywood during the '20's and '30's as well. The film is a deliberate pastiche of cinema melodrama from this era. However, you'll find that the film is actually a semi-remake of Luhrmann's own stage production of La Boheme, which was around before Strictly Ballroom and is soon to be seen on Broadway. I know it is available on video in Australia (although I don't think DVD as yet). In fact, all of Luhrmann's films owe more than a little to that production.
