Okay, I've always wanted to see Cannibal Holocost, and this just sinched it. Is there a R1 dvd that is uncut?

Cannibal Feroux and Mountain of the Cannibal god is easy to find, but I've never seen CH in the stores.

Your advice is needed!

Pretty much all the brutal stuff that stuck out to me made the list. The end of "Dancer In The Dark: is still the most devastating thing to me, but not really brutal.

Sick : the life and times of Bob Flannigan Supermasochist made me fall off my couch. I've never looked at a hammer the same way again! Real self inflicted violence as a statement, still one of my favorite documentaries.

Thanks for the tip Michael!

And too get it straight, "Slave Of the Mountian God" is the same as Mountain of the Cannibal God, just missing a pig scene? Other wise, it's uncut?

Blood sucking Freaks is great!! The straw scene is classic.

Anyone know about getting CH in Canada? I don't want border hassels, and DVDSOON doesn't seem to carry it.

I've seen Cannibal Holocaust and it's pretty brutal, but my pick is from the movie Mountain of the Cannibal God where they butcher a live iguana. I couldn't stomach that one, especially because I own a pet iguana. :frowning:

Russell: I actually don't think Cannibal Holocaust is that good of a movie. Everything after the pig sequence (near the end of the movie) is gold, but everything before that is rather dull. Just random animal killings... Although if you ever wanted to see the insides of a giant turtle, then be my guest. :) I just don't recommend a blind-buy.

Also, yeah, Mountain and Slave are the same movie. I think all DVDs that use the Slave title are edited. Mountain/Slave is also a movie I don't recommend a blind-buy. I haven't watched an Italian cannibal movie that I've actually liked... Except Zombie Holocaust. :D

I think that the test for me is whether or not I can watch the film again. For me, I will not watch Passion of the Christ, Irreversible, and Boys Don't Cry ever again. Boys Don't Cry is one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen.

Hardcore is another film that is hard to watch. (It blows 8mm away.)

I always cringe at Romero's Dawn of the Dead when Tom Savini is torn apart. It hurts me to watch it. Schindler's List and The Pianist also have some hard to watch scenes.

The most brutal film I have seen recently is Dodgeball. I was in pain throughout. If someone had videotaped me watching that film, it would be the biggest bootleg torture flick of all time. Pathetic movie.

Anchor Bays Mountain Of Cannibal God shows a guy humping a pig. Im no expert,so I dont know if this is the complete scne or a portion of it - but I belive its the 102 minute version - which would make it the longest cut of the film.

Saw it this weekend and was suprised at how tame it was. Since I watch Discovery,National Geo all the time, Im used to seeing animals get mauled - however here,I do see those scenes as unnecessary and fast fowarded them.

I remember watching a movie when I young called The Car that had one particular scene that has stuck with me. The poor kid with the french horn getting run over, repeatedly, with the engine gunning and tire squeeling. You don't actually see the kid being turned into human soup, but you get the idea. However, this scene probably wouldn't make me squirm one bit if I saw today, but it was pretty horrible to me when I was a kid.

Another scene that stuck with me is from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 I believe it was. The part where the girl discovers one of her guy friends in a barn (or shed?). His face had recently been removed by leatherface and dude was a mess, but still alive. Brutal.

Cool thread! :emoji_thumbsup:

HKflix.com has an all-region Dutch edition of CH here. After first seeing it listed in a cult movie book (about 20 years ago!) I finally picked it up. Didn't quite live up to the myth, and the animal stuff was just...sad. Like some other posters, I can laugh all the way through the grossest zombie flick, but seeing real harm to an animal isn't entertaining.
PS: One thing that still gets to me is Regan's spinal tap in 'The Exorcist.' While more, er, extreme things happen to her later, the fear and pain of that scene is still palpable to me.

I would add ICHI THE KILLER to the list. Make sure you watch the uncut version though.

I know you are talking about movies, but there was a time where I was on an violent anime trip until I got two anime movies, Violence Jack and Overfiend. The Legend of Overfiend to me was pretty bad especially during the rape scene in the begining, then everything else was just silly. However Violence Jack gave me a guilt complex. The non-mosaic version depicted raping and killing of women and children and even Violence Jack in the attempt to save the villagers found himself loosing control and ripping a woman from her hoohah in half. I know it's just anime but slightly disturbing. Ironically reading this subject I saw Bully last night on IFC and when the killed the Bully (Steve Stahl) that was pretty brutal.

I always thought these cannibal films were called "Snuff" films in the 70s and I was always interested in viewing them but I was too young. Let's not forget the Discovery channel
when they show chimpanzees killing other smaller monkeys for meat. That has an eerie feel to it as well, always leave an etched memory in my mind.

Looking at the HKflix site, it appears that CH is in anamorphic widescreen. Just looking at the cover give me the woolies.

Any number of scenes in Reanimator. The cat being thrown against the wall, the entrails scene at the end... It's corny and not that realistic, but it's excessive.

The curbing scene in American History X is definitely a tough one to watch. I like the movie, but can't watch that scene twice.

The torture scene in Reservoir Dogs never looked that realistic, but it is very disturbing.

I always found the scene in True Romance where James Gandolfini is "questioning" Patricia Arquette was painful to watch.

I liked Overfiend (Urotsukidoji), though I could do without some of the over the top rape scenes.

Going back to Cannibal Holocaust and Anthony's suggestion that the girl on the pole may have been real and "found that way"

Isnt she the same girl who was raped earlier?

I only saw this film once 15 years ago and it was late at night so I cant remember.

"Going back to Cannibal Holocaust and Anthony's suggestion that the girl on the pole may have been real and "found that way""

Nah, she's very much alive. She was standing on a stool or something and holding the piece of wood in her mouth. Toward the end of the scene, where it pans down, the director put a little scratch in the film to make it look damaged but the reason he did this was to hide the stool she was standing on.

---

I heard about the American History X curbing scene and I never want to watch it! Ouch!

After you guys check out the cannibal phaze, there's always more ground to break. :)

When porn became more legal throughout the world, directors took that craze and mixed it in with the horror craze, which gave us several horror/porn titles. The most infamous is Joe D'Amato's PORNO HOLOCAUST and its semi-sequel EROTIC NIGHTS OF THE LIVING DEAD. Shriek Show released ENOTLD in both XXX and "soft" versions. They just got the rights to PH so we could see that released later in the year.

The strange thing is in Spain where many producer's took their older films, reshot porn footage and inserted them into the film. This happened with several Jess Franco films. Quite often Franco films have 5+ versions. THE FEMALE VAMPIRE for one had a "horror" version, a "soft" version and a "XXX" version.
