    Step #1
    -------

STOP USING INTERNET EXPLORER, DAMN IT!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Step #2
    -------

    Go to C:Program FilesWindow Active.
Delete the winactive.exe file and the associated dll file.

(#2 is untested. I found it on another site where someone also asked about this spyware.)

(#1 is very well-tested and 100% successful at stopping the installation of IE toolbars.)

If winactive.exe is indeed the right executable, you should do a search for that value throughout your registry to see what comes up.

You might try this program. It has Active-Max listed as one of the programs it removes.

I have never used it myself though.

Have you tried running Spybot? It also immunizes itself from some spyware programs.
