    Hi All
This comes from www.dvdshrine.com . Columbia announced SuperBit Editions of Patriot,Gattaca & Bram Stoker`s Dracula. Street date is December 11th. What about the SE of Dracula? Is this still coming and how long do we have to wait?

Jeeze, I just finally bought Gattaca about a week ago, and now a Superbit is coming. Oh well, no big deal, I will be picking up Dracula which I have been holding out buying because of the rumored SE (which may never come now?).
I was hoping Starship Troopers would come out in the second wave, but I have a feeling we will eventually get that one as well under the Superbit label.

I will be picking up Dracula and Patriot for sure.
I think Dracula will sound pretty cool in DTS.

All three of these are among Columbia's finest efforts as far as transfer and audio goes. I really don't think there can be any noticable improvement on these discs regardless of bit-rate or DTS.
Also I am still a little foggy on this whole superbits thing. Are these discs going to actually have new transfers, or they going to be the old ones only with higher bit rates and DTS?

Gattaca needs a new transfer anyway so this seems a good opportunity. The last time I watched it the picture seemed to have a lot of compression artifacts.

Excellent (I wasn't interested in the first batch of SuperBits releases)! "Gattaca" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" for me! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I will be getting the Gattaca DVD, but the others, no. Bram Stokers Dracula was a very good disc and isn't worth the money to buy a new disc. The Patriot itself isn't worth the upgrade.

Why would they release The Patriot again?? The disc that came out last year was perfect and still is. It doesn't make any sense. But it is good to see the Jerry Maguire will finally get the SE treatment it deserves.

If people would take the Superbit releases as DTS re-releases, I think most people would be more satisfied with their choices. Universal did this early on by re-releasing many of the early titles in featureless DTS versions. Columbia appears to be doing the same. The movies they have chosen can sound fantastic in new DTS soundtracks. As far as how much of an improvement in picture and sound there will be, we are all obviously excited to find out.

I'll consider Gattaca once I see a review. I agree the picture is a tad compressed on the normal version.
I'm glad it's been successful enough on DVD to warrant this. The VHS sales were ABYSMAL, at least at my Tower Records. We moved _1_ copy in 6 months, despite the cool shiny packaging

I'm still gonna have to see proof-of-purchase on these before I buy into it. It still seems too much like a marketing gimick, such as Universal's Ultimate Editions...

Isn't too early for them to announce more when the first batch isn't is out yet? I mean Warner let the DTS titles go out and has yet to release more. (They will release more, I know they will)

I might buy Dracula if it's indeed the long-rumored SE, otherwise sorry! no buy from me: my current DVD looks and sounds awesomely(?) good!

Ummm....did the patriot really need another release?...Gattaca maybe, but not Patriot.
There are bound to be other CTHV titles begging for a remaster and DTS track!!
I just cant think of any off the top of my head, except maybe Last Aciton Hero
Who knows, maybe 6th Day will be their next Superbit release. Then Hollow Man, then Vertical Limit, then Charlie's Angels...movies with already great DVDs, just a repackage of them to sell to us.

I'll try DRACULA because I only have it on LD. Personally, I'm very skeptical about SB's. I find it disheartening that we might have to pay extra (?) for them to bother to do a good job making discs. How much better can SB's be? 1%, 3%, what % ? I tend to believe it's a very small numeral...

quote: Isn't the point of SuperBit to have all the bits dedicated to sound and video? [/quote]
That's the reason 2-DVD sets are made for...
Anyway, the point of "highest possible quality" is already lost by using half-bitrate DTS, but that's another topic [IMG]
