Revenge Of The Nerds (2007) has been cancelled.

Various stories are floating around, that...

- Fox Atomic President PETER RICE was unhappy with the daily film clips he had seen so far and decided to scrap the entire movie.

- Atlanta's Emory University backed out earlier this month

This after only 2 weeks of shooting.

There is a God.

So wait wait wait...is this not the first time in movie history that they realized in production that they were making a lousy movie?!

You always gotta wonder why they never clued into it...

Here's hoping Hollywood will finally make a readaptation for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz that's actually like the book. Return to Oz is a far more accurate representation of the feel of the books, not a damn musical. I'd go see it and the marketing should tout it as an all out readaptation.

I'd be all for a new "Wizard of Oz" closer to the book. With fantasy the thing at the moment, it could even spawn a series with a few more of the books being adapted. I wonder if the general public would accept a different version of it though with the 1939 film so ingrained in our subconscious. In some ways, the film has become more popular than the books.

The Wizard of OZ is my #1 favorite film. And I welcome a remake/reimaging if done right. I agree that Return to Oz is the direction it should go. Each film is appealing to me for different reasons. I imagine it's the same way for most fans of both. OZ is nostalgia and Return is just a great kid flick that's almost too scary for kids.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned already, but the Scifi Channel is remaking (or I should say "re-imaginig") the "Wizard of Oz" with a new 6-hour mini-series entitled "Tinman". It's supposed to be weird & dark. I'm actually looking forward to it. Zooey Deschanel , Richard Dreyfuss and Alan Cumming are part of the cast.

SCI FI Green-Lights Tin Man

SCI FI Channel has given a green light to Tin Man, a wild SF reimagining of The Wizard of Oz, as its next six-hour original miniseries. Written by Steven Long Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle (The Pretender), Tin Man (working title) is slated to begin shooting in Vancouver, B.C., in early 2007, with an eye to a December 2007 premiere. Casting is currently underway. SCI FI is re-teaming with RHI Entertainment (Legend of Earthsea) to produce Tin Man.

The miniseries is a sometimes psychedelic, often twisted and always bizarre take on The Wizard of Oz. It centers on DG, a young woman plucked from her humdrum life and thrust into The Outer Zone (the O.Z.), a fantastical realm filled with wonder, but oppressed by dark magic. DG discovers her true identity, battles evil winged monkey-bats and attempts to fulfill her destiny. Her perilous journey begins on the fabled Old Road that leads to a wizard known as the Mystic Man. Along the way, she is joined by "Glitch," an odd man missing half his brain; "Raw," a quietly powerful wolverine-like creature longing for inner courage; and "Cain," a heroic former policeman (known in the O.Z. as a "Tin Man"), who is seeking vengeance for his scarred heart. Ultimately, DG's destiny leads her to a showdown with the wicked sorceress Azkadellia, whose ties to DG are closer than anyone could have imagined.

Tin Man will be executive-produced by RHI's Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr. Mitchell and Van Sickle will also serve as executive producers.

Tin Man's Deschanel Talks

Zooey Deschanel, who will star in SCI FI Channel's upcoming original miniseries Tin Man, told SCI FI Wire that it will be surprisingly dark, though it's based on L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. "It's really kind of dark," Deschanel (Bridge to Terabithia) said in an interview. "It will be fascinating to see what they do with it." Deschanel spoke at a preview of her upcoming animated film, Surf's Up, last week.

"I'm leaving in three weeks for Vancouver, where we'll shoot it, and I'm [the] Dorothy [character]," Deschanel said. She added that she is particularly excited about working with Alan Cumming, who co-stars as Glitch, and Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss as the wizard-like Mystic Man.

Tin Man (a working title) follows Deschanel's character, who is called DG, as she enters another world, where she must discover her true identity. In a realm called the O.Z., she battles evil winged monkey-bats and attempts to fulfill her destiny in a perilous journey on the fabled Old Road, which leads to the Mystic Man. Along the way, she is joined by Glitch, a man missing half his brain; Raw, a quietly powerful wolverine-like creature longing for inner courage; and Cain, a heroic former policeman (known in the O.Z. as a Tin Man, for his tin badge), seeking vengeance for his scarred heart.

Deschanel said she and her companions are "not really the Wizard of Oz characters. It's just a hint at those characters. So it's not like I'm going to go back and watch the [1939] movie and do a Judy Garland thing or anything like that." The six-hour Tin Man is expected to air on SCI FI Channel in December.

FRIDAY THE 13th I can almost see (though not really)... but the first ELM STREET is a fine film as it already is. Jeez, are we really up to the point now of getting remakes from movies released in 1984??????? And who could play Freddy except Robert Englund? And if Englund reprised his part, why not just make a new film and forget re-doing the first one?

So dumb, these needless modern remakes of already modern-enough movies.

That's exactly my thought. A Nightmare remake couldn't be any worse than a majority of its sequels but trying to have the Freddy Krueger character without Robert Englund is a bad idea and probably doomed to failure. And I'm not a "I HATE ALL REMAKES!!!!!"-type of guy either.

25 years apart for a remake isn't any record on the fewest number of years between horror remakes. Just look at what Universal did:

Secrets of the Blue Room (1933)
The Missing Guest (1938)
Murder in the Blue Room (1944)

Two remakes in the matter of 11 years but this was pretty normal back in the day. Just turn to any page of Leonard Maltin's Classic Movie Guide and you'll find a film that was remake fairly close to one another (certainly within a 25 year period).

I've seen all three of the Universal films mentioned above and it's doubtful they changed the screenplay for any of the films as they feature the same killer, the same motives, the same number of people being killed and in the same order.
