As many of you are aware, I was very

upset that CABIN FEVER went out of business

    two years ago.

They were the force behind releasing 2

VHS boxed sets of LITTLE RASCALS shorts to

    the market.

Before going out of business, they released

a DVD box set of 24 shorts. This was a duplicate

of the first VHS boxed set complete with Leonard

    Maltin introductions.

However, before the SECOND boxed set could be

issued, CABIN FEVER went out of business.

Now I read that GOODTIMES VIDEO is releasing

a slew of OUR GANG DVD titles.

There looks like there will be 8 individual

titles, plus a 4-pack or 8-pack (that will cost

under $40). Release date is May 7th.

I can't get a good confirmation on any of this

since the Goodtimes website has been down for weeks

while supposed upgrades are being done.

It is good to hear that Little Rascals shorts

will once again be appearing on DVD. However, what

is uncertain is the title of the shorts and how

    good the transfers will look.

If anyone has any further information, please post.

    Thank You.

I looked under the Image Entertainment's website and they don't give any information on what the 8-pack would contain (other than the fact that the discs are in production and the SRP is $49.99).

Maybe somebody here at the forum has contact information for Goodtimes.

    Chas,

What you have is what I talked about in my

    original post in this thread.

    I have it too.

CABIN FEVER went out of business before the

next boxed set could be produced.

The picture quality of the Cabin Fever discs is amazing. It looks like they transfered from the real film elements and not some "video" NTSC master they had lying around.

    Just amazing.

I'll only buy more discs if they have this level of quality What good is "VHS quality" on a 5" disc?

Also, I hope that any future "sets" take note of the episodes already available and give us compilations that add to and don't duplicate those shows we already own (or provide separate sets for those who don't have the current set). I'd had to buy all the same titles over again just to get a few I don't have.

    David,

If rights have been transferred over to GOODTIMES,

chances are very good that these will be duplicates

of what we already own from CABIN FEVER.

    My hope, however is....

    * There a few included that were not previously

    available from CABIN FEVER

    * The transfer quality is as pristine as was

    on the CABIN FEVER releases.

Until the GOODTIMES website is back up, there

is very little to be known about these releases.

Ron, the Goodtimes website is back up at http://www.goodtimes.com. I couldn't find any information about the upcoming Little Rascals DVD on their website, but the website shows contact information (via phone and e-mail).

The USA rights for the Cabin Fever library are owned by Artisan, thus they own the restored versions with the Leonard Maltin intros. They did release the first volume about a year and a half ago (the same disc that is Volume 1 from the Canadian release, only Artisan's is dual-layer) but have yet to follow up any subsequent volumes.

Many of the Little Rascals/Our Gang shorts have fallen into the public domain and I am sure this is what Goodtimes is releasing. They've already released at least one DVD that I've seen at K-Mart for $5.99 but I have no idea how the quality is. I just wish Artisan would release the rest of these since they are the only company with the rights to all of the shorts. Several are still copyrighted and can't be released by anyone else. Artisan did release 10 Volumes of the restored LR shorts on VHS on 7/11/2000 but nothing else.

In addition, I'd love to see Artisan release some of the Laurel & Hardy features they own such as SONS OF THE DESERT (which they aquired through the purchase of Cabin Fever's library).

If you REALLY want to get those "Laurel & Hardy" sound shorts, you can. (And the quality is very good, too.) Just go to the German Amazon.com and do a do "Laurel and Hardy" search. The problm is you'll also need to pick up a DVD player that will play DVDs from Germany.

(I bought a Malata and 15 Laurel and Hardy DVDs and now I'm in Laurel and Hardy Heaven!)

Page - It seems that many of the Laurel & Hardy sound shorts and features are available on DVD in many places throughout the world...except here in the country where they were made.

    What's up with that?

    Regards,

    Lee
