Deep Discount DVD also seems to have dropped the price on some of their HD DVDs. The Oceans Trilogy is currently under $20!

Woo-hoo, finally Warner is cutting prices. I'm tempted to see if it spreads to Amazon, just because they deliver faster, but I'll probably just pounce.

They're still taking orders, though, which means that they expect to have more. I haven't had any problem with DDD filling orders for out of stock HD-DVDs.

While this is true, the fact that we are talking about a defunct format throws it into doubt.

Obviously I can't guarantee anything, but I ordered some out of stock HD-DVDs from DDD last month and they shipped within a week after i placed my order. Out of stock isn't the same as out of print.

So far, Amazon does not seem to be matching these prices.

For those living near a Fry's Electronics store, they have a slew of HD DVD titles for $9.99 each (they have tons of stock, from what I've read, and seen at my own nearby store).

Here's a sampling (though selection can vary with location):

300
2001: A Space Odyssey
Anchorman
Batman Begins
Beowulf
Blades of Glory
Blood Diamond
Born on the Fourth of July
Breach
Bruce Almighty
Children of Men
Daylight
Disturbia
Face/Off
The Fast and the Furious
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Flags of Our Fathers
Galapagos
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The Heartbreak Kid
The Italian Job
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
March of the Penguins
Miami Vice
Mission: Impossible III
Nacho Libre
Next
Norbit
Old School
Shooter
Sleepy Hollow
Smokin' Aces
Skeleton Key
Smokey and the Bandit
Sneakers
Stardust
Top Gun
Transformers
We Were Soldiers
World Trade Center

I'm almost tempted to pick up Stardust (thought its video is reviewed as being average for a new film) and Beowulf, though they only have DD Plus audio tracks.

Yeah the Fry's at Manhattan Beach are pretty much clearancing all of their HD-DVDs at $9.99. It's not in the circulars, so I can't say that all Fry's are doing this.

Richard, you are right. At least half right so far. After reading what you had to say, I thought why not try? So last night I ordered the set plus three more and all were listed as out of stock. This morning I got an email that two were in stock. Not the set yet but I have hope.

Jeff,

I got an e-mail from DDD today advising that a half-dozen titles which were out of stock last week were shipped to me today.

There is no risk in ordering, because DDD doesn't charge you until the title actually ships.

Also Fry's online often does not match their instore prices. Fry's online used to be Outpost.com [I believe] and is a semi-separate operation. They carry a lot of the same merch, and pretty similar prices, but from what I've seen the prices and selection aren't always identical.
