In order of merit:

1.I KNEW HER WELL (1965) ***

This film is considered a classic on its home ground and, indeed, it should be far better known abroad. It is a very cynical depiction of the rise and fall of a starlet (played by teenager Stefania Sandrelli at her sexiest) as told by the men in her life including Franco Nero, Nino Manfredi and Ugo Tognazzi. Besides an unforgettable opening (with the camera panning up the slender body of a sunbathing Sandrelli) and closing sequences (with Sandrelli all alone at home crying her eyes out and then leaping off the balcony), it also features a memorable turn by Tognazzi as an aging matinee idol who, at a society party, wants desperately to impress upon impresario Enrico Maria Salerno that he has still “got it” by engaging in an energetic dance with one of the latter’s protégés and suffering a heart attack on the spot for his troubles!

I also have the following on VHS:

•THE BACHELOR (1955)
•ADUA AND HER FRIENDS (1960)
•THE VISITOR (1963)
•THE MAGNIFICENT CUCKOLD (1964)
