Set to be released on September 29th by EMI are stereo hybrid SACD of "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" and "Let's Dance"

Also released on that date would be the multi-channel hybrid SACD of "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars"

Here's the link to Bowie's website making the announcement.

According to some folks over at Steve Hoffman's board, the Ziggy Stardust SACD may be the same mix as the 30th Anniversary CD, which is considered to be a more master.

    Hopefully that's not true.

Scary Monsters is one of my top 3 Bowie albums. I hope the SACD is really good.

Mike is right about Ziggy Stardust. If EMI does use the mix for the 30th anniversary CD, this SACD may not be the winner we would all like it to be. Aside from the notion that the 30th anniversary CD does not stand up to the old RCA CD soundwise, the 30th anniversary CD has the channels reversed. Could you imagine EMI releasing the SACD with the channels reversed? [IMG]

Sorry if this isn't related to the thread, but regarding the Bowie CDs:

I bought the 30th Anniversary Ziggy without knowing about the problems with it so I'll sell it. Is there a version out there that is similar to the 1999 remasters?

Also, I noticed an Aladdin Sane 30th Anniversary CD. I don't have this album yet and want to get it- is the same problem here? Which version of AS do I get?

Yes, I made sure to qualify that.

I will wait until some of you folks buy it and review it before I lay down the cash for it. [IMG]

Keith, all I want is correctly mixed, decent sounding versions of Ziggy and Aladdin. I don't care about bonus tracks, nor do I feel like paying so much for an album that's supposed to be so popular.

It looks like '99 remasters is my best bet.

Anyone know if his new 'Reality' album will be out on SACD?

Thanks for the information Ken. It looks like these SACD will be sourced from PCM masters, and not the original tapes like all too many SACD today. I will hold off purchasing the discs until some opinions are posted, but still may pick up Ziggy just for the multichannel mix.

    Ken,

I see now. That's great news, the Bowie site is essentially saying that there will be a new 2003 remastering for the DSD layer. That should sound great.
