Man Bites Dog has been showing regularly on the Sundance Channel, but I keep forgetting to tape it.

Man Bites Dog--a tough one to take. I'll probably get the thing, because it draws me in. But I end up feeling soiled by the film sometimes. Perhaps it's because I still remember all too vividly how the audience in the commercial theater where I originally saw the thing kept on laughing during that rape scene. Ugh.

Wiil be buying Spellbound, though I haven't seen it yet. Does anybody know if the remaining Hitchcock/Selznick picture, The Paradine Case, is scheduled to be released by Criterion? If not, I'll buy the budget release.

Mark, we have pretty similiar tastes I see! Good, you give me something to shoot for - when my wife gets exasperated at all the boxes coming through the post to our home - I will simply say, "Hey, I have to try and keep up with Mark!"

[IMG] Jim, I wasn't implying that my collection was actually better, I was only referring to my copy of Rules of the Game (La Règle Du Jeu) AND your signature statement.

This is great news! I have been waiting for a DVD of MAN BITES DOG for what seems like forever now! September just got even more expensive.

Woo Hoo!!! More Hitch - I'm so happy it's finally officially announced... Now if we could finally figure out why nobody seems to be pressed to put out To Catch a Thief onto DVD... Two of the most gorgeous people in the history of film (Pre-Princess, Grace Kelly and Cary Grant), with an above average Hitch movie, should be SCREAMING for a release date... Oh, well, still waiting...

Yup, Rules of the Game would be great too... I officially second that request, and add Stroheim's Greed to the fray...

According to Martin Blythe of Paramount, "To Catch a Thief" is being restored. I expect this title to be released either late in the year or in 2003.

Cool news on Spellbound. Don't like Man Bites Dog enough to buy it, though. Man, these next three months are gonna kill me!

Can't wait for Spellbound. I wish Criterion were doing Paradine Case as well, but, as far as I know, they're not.

I'll definitely be up for both of these. Spellbound is a great film, and the extras look splendid, but for me the real prize is the announcement of Man Bites Dog, both for the film itself -- one of the blackest of all black comedies -- and for the utterly hysterical short film Pas de C4 Pour Daniel-Daniel, which left me shaking with helpless laughter the first time I saw it.
I've already got the laserdisc but will cheerfully upgrade to get 16:9 enhancement and better black-and-white.
(Speaking of laughing, Man Bites Dog holds a fond memory for me: not long after I got it on laserdisc, I showed it to a friend who's possessed of an extremely black sense of humour. The scene of the main character's birthday party and his annoyed response to one gift-giver
provoked in this friend one of the most severe laughing fits I've ever been privileged to witness. I thought he might die laughing.)

Man Bites Dog is just too strange and memorable to NOT pick up. I must have it. It must be mine.

    Vincent-

Agreed. The audience I saw it with went from
constant laughing to shock and utter silence for
about the last 15 minutes of the
film, and it leaves one with a real concern over the
amount of "comic" violence we enjoy and injest.

I thought the point was to make us evaluate that aspect
    of our viewing habits.

Brilliant film, but too disturbing to consider a "must own"
title for me...I just cannot imagine wanting to revisit it
    with any frequency.

I wonder if THIS is going to be the final artwork Man Bites Dog? I sure hope so. If Critertion does release it that way then I applaud them.
