Mitsubishi XD300U (1 Viewer)

I have recently purchased a Mitsubishi XD300U projector and am confused about the bulb life. I have seen descriptions of both 4000 hours and 1500 hours. Which is correct?

Is there a way to switch to an economy level of brightness to extend the life of the bulb? If so, I have not seen this information in the instruction manual.

Any advice?
