In my reading on the board, I see that people say this TV was designed to be on the matching base. Do you HAVE to use the base or can it be set on the floor without the base?

Is it just a height thing or a cooling thing, or something else?

    Thanks.

that is the TV I bought and returned, you need to raise it up, it is not high enough on its own for the screen to be at eye level, I was going to build my own platform to put it on, I could not dee paying $299 for the $20 dollar particle board base they wanted to sell me

I had it sitting on the floor, it will not hurt the set, it does have feet underneath

You would need some type of stand if you do not get the one made for the set..Having it sit on the floor would put the set below normal eye level while sitting....I got the matching stand and am happy with it..It has room below for my AV receiver and another component..
