I'm more of an audio guy trying to make a decision about my first HDTV. I'm pretty sold on Mits (unless someone suggests otherwise), but need advice on new 311/411/511 lines. Probably going 55"; is the 411 worth the $200 over the 311 (I have prices of $2600 vs $2400). My understanding is that it's the same lens, but with a different focus system? Or, is the 511 (with the "next" level lens) worth $600 more than the 411?
Or should I maybe look to make a deal on the last generation going out? I haven't found one yet, but I have seen the 55809 well-reviewed here. And the same dealer with the sets above offered a 55859 at $3000, which I understand is last gens' 511.

I know the ultimate deciding factor is a side-by-side comparison, but I haven't found a dealer in my area that has the 311/411/511 all on display in the same size. So I'm relying on some expert advice here to help point the way.

P.S. Now I'm wondering how the Pioneer SD-533HD5 compares in all this.

Thanks,
CDL

The difference between the 311 and the 411 is the Quad-Field Focus, which supposedly shows it's advantage with HD programming. I just got the 55411 and I think it's awesome. I'm not rigged for HD, yet, but definitely no complaints with progressive scan DVD output. Looks darn near high-def. I don't know why the 611 is only available in a 65", but it's just as well I didn't get that, because I'd rather get the outboard HD receiver when more satellite HD programming kicks in. Also, I keep hearing that there was an issue with "Red Push" or red over-saturation with some of last years models which supposedly has been corrected in the 2002-2003 line. Jim

I wouldn'y go with the 55859 unless you can get it for 2700 or less. As the new 55511 is going for 3200.

Well a little more research and opinions solicited and I think I've narrowed down to the 411. I'm not that concerned about the built-in HD tuner, as I will mostly be watching progressive scan DVDs, and I hear the NetCommand thing is more trouble than it's worth. This set seems to be the "bang for the buck" favorite in the new Mits line. So now the real question is 55411 or Pioneer SD-533HD5. I haven't had a chance to audition the Pioneer yet. Anyone compared these 2 models?

Thanks,

The 411 has the better lens and quadfield focus. The 311 has neither, and the 511 has the better lens and no quadfield focus but has a built in hd tuner. I bought the 55411 4 weeks ago and love it. It is definitely worth the extra $200 over the 311.
