I have finalized my 2 selections to either the 65869 or the 65SWX20B. Any recommendations? I have a lot of windows in the room, and it get's pretty bright in summer. The price diff is $270 with the 869 being higher.
I need to decide by thursday
Thanks
-Jay

Oops it's not the 65611 it's the 65869.

HI guys!

Since you have a lot of windows, Id shy away from any set with a protective "antiglare" screen (the Hitachi - and not easily removed). The Mits has a protective screen that is easily removable.

Happy viewing!

The SWX does have an anti-glare screen.
Hitachi claims it reduces room light and reflection by 60%.

I think the Diamond has an anti-glare screen too...doesn't it?

but the 611 Mits does not.
The XWX has a very excellent anti-glare screen, best I have seen, but much more money.
The Hitachi screen can be removed, it is just harder.
There have been posts about how to do it.
Gregg is right, the Mits is much easier though.
Since the 611 does not have the anti-glare and the 711 (diamond series) does, it might be a better alternative if room light is a problem.
overall, my impression is that the hitachi has a much better upconversion for 480i signals than the Mits, and generally excellent HD and DVD picture quality.
But, the Mits has a HDTV tuner and the Hitachi does not.
Hits has DVI
Mits has 1394
This is a tough call... But my Hitachi bias sends me in that direction.

Mits all the way!!!

I did alot of comparisons on the mits and the Hit. (in store) and I the mits out did the hitachi every time.

I am thrilled w/ my 65611. Picture was wonderful out of the box-even better once I used avia and I know will be even better once I have it pro calibrated!!!

My room has a huge pic window opposite the tv so during the day there is glare. The protective screen isn't an anti glare. I would suggest maybe buying the anti glare screen that comes w/ the diamond series as I here it works great!!

good luck and if you have any questions about the 65611 ask away

regards,
Harvey

Thought I would post GmanHDTV's removal of the hitachi screen.

Here is GmanHDTV's post about glare screen removal on the 65SWX20B model

The removal of the glare screen is quite easy.
1. Remove speaker cover (fabric) on front of tv.
2. Remove screws holding front L & R side decorative panels.
3. Remove screws holding front L & R of control panel fascia.
4. Remove all screws holding screen frame in place.
5. Gently lift up and out the entire screen frame assembly.
6. Remove all screws holding frame together.
7. Remove glare screen and fresnel assembly (taped together)
8. Using safety razor or exacto knife "cut" the black tape around the entire
border of the frame. You want to "split" the tape from the glare screen
and the fresnel screen.
9. After separating the screens, apply 3/8" of heavy duty foam doublesided
tape to the edge of the fresnel screen, over lapping the "black" border of
the original tape. Leave the "release paper" on the outside of the tape.
10. Carefully remove the remaining release paper from double sided tape
one side of the screen at a time i.e left, than right, top then bottom.
11. This part requires two people. Insert the fresnel screen with tape into
the groove in the screen frame, apply pressure to the tape to secure to
frame one section at a time.
12. Re-assemble the frame and install on tv.

I am sure if you looked hard enough or wanted to buy 1/8" x 3/8" plastic
strips cut to length you could use that instead of mounting tape to fill the gap. The gap must be filled to firmly secure the screen in the frame.

Sit back and enjoy a GLARE free picture in all lighting conditions!

I too hope to puchase a RPTV soon and Hitachi is at the top of the list. The TV will be going into the basement which has only two tiny windows that won't be a factor. If window light isn't a factor, would it matter if I get the earlier model to the SWX line?

Only for value and picture quality.

I have last years 61SWX10B, soon to be given to my father.

This years 65SWX20B is much better and retails for about $600 less.

I would get a 20B model for sure. To be honest 10B models are no where near as good, and come with alot of troubles to get the picture perfect.

a 20B model out of the box is like night and day.

anything SWX20B is a good bet. If it is going into a basement, get the 65" model because it easily splits into two peices to fit it down the stairs.

57" probably won't fit, and the 51" is just not big enough for a basement.
