Just passing on something pointed out in alt.video.dvd by "Mr. Moody" :
Another mistake(?) on the disc - the subtitle:
Mønti Pythøn ik den Hølie Grãilen
which used to appear on the title card, is gone. We lost the first joke in the film.
Damnit. Everything else about this release is great, too. I'm going to feel a bit petty about bothering Columbia to re-press the disc with that sub-title corrected, but it does kill a good gag...
Sorry to be a bearer of (even minor) bad news,
doug

Oh bloody hell. That's the title to the book of the screenplay, too.
Can't they get people to work on discs that actually KNOW the movie?
Sheesh...

Not directly related to that error, but I thought they missed a great opportunity to have a Swedish subtitle track for the whole movie . . . .

Well, the credits on the DVD indicate production by Python (Monty) Pictures Ltd. on the first page. I would also assume the boys themselves had some level of participation in this disc because of the amount of new content featuring the various members of the troupe.
Or perhaps you were being sarcastic...
How about a more sinister reason... I noticed if you select the Henry IV subtitle track, the title "Henry IV" comes up in the space under the real title"... perhaps one joke sacrificed for another?

There is no need to sacrifice one joke for another. They could just have easily positioned the Henry IV title above the main title and leave the joke beneath it.
If Monty Python did this on purpose, then Columbia better say so. I've already started a complaint thread in Studio Feedback.

Most interesting. This joke is definitely on the "new" print as I just saw it theatrically this past Friday. Hmmm...

Steve, I wasn't really being serious. It was the only reason I could think of for the omission on the video.
This is a strange question, however, about the subtitle disappearing.

I just got this disc today, and it had the wrong movie on it! I was expecting to see the Holy Grail, but instead got some movie about a Dentist! :) :)

Just wanted to post the link to Steve's thread in Studio Feedback:

Please post there to let Columbia know how much we want this fixed.

Well, I am not 100% sure but I think there is not one
single word in Swedish in those funny subtitles.
It's more like the jibberish spoken by the Swedish chef in
the Muppet Show, not a single word of Swedish...

I hate to say this, but they're not gonna have a recall program for one comic subtitle. I'm sure that they'll fix it for the next release. I'd still buy it.

You're perhaps right, but there is the larger technical flaw in the disc which causes the english subtitles to turn themselves on constantly throughout the film on many Toshiba and Sony players. If they have to re-press to fix that problem, it would be my hope that they fix this one as well.

The missing subtitle is confirmed with my own eyes and five DVD players.

Point well taken on the Swedish, and can't ask for a better source than Stockholm. So, I say -- all the more reason to do an actual Swedish subtitle track. Perhaps they can throw that into the repressing, too.
"Help, help, I'm being repressed!"
