Back when I was reviewing Fox releases regularly, this was a film I was slated to receive, but Fox never sent a review copy, and numerous inquiries never produced one, so it never got an official HTF review. Over this weekend, I bought the UHD streaming version for $4.99 and watched it this afternoon.

Like many Tim Burton films, the fantasy is aplenty, and for much of the movie, it's very enjoyable and involving. However, by the time it came to face the villain and use powers full out, I didn't always quite follow how some of the magic worked with certain children consistently, so the ending didn't quite seem to fit together. Still, it's beautifully and lovingly made (HDR really shone well in the Florida-set scenes), and some of the performances were just wonderful (loved Terence Stamp). I don't regret for a moment the small amount I paid to have this movie available for streaming.

I picked up the 3D version for $9.99. Not the best 3D disc but still pretty good with some pop-outs.

The scene at the amusement park with fighting skeletons is priceless!

With a $110 million production budget it perhaps just broke even. Doubt we’ll ever see a sequel.
