Misaligned letterbox images? (1 Viewer)

I was playing the DVD Out of Sight the other day on my 80"x45" 1.78:1 screen and since this is a 1.85:1 transfer I ended up with 1" inch black bars at the top and bottom. Then I tried the Vertical Limit: Superbit which is also a 1.85:1 transfer, yet when it displayed on the 1.78:1 screen, I ended up with the image at the top of the screen with a larger 2" black bar at the bottom only. This yielded the same 1.85:1 ratio, but the letterbox image was clearly higher in the frame.
Why are images not centered properly on all DVDs?

Most of these, however, are just the result of sloppy telecine work. This was a much bigger problem in the days of LD. This problem is another reason why Zoom Player and a HTPC are requirements for anyone serious about HT.

Yeah right! I own a CRT projector, a DVD player that outputs a Serial Digitial Interface (SDI) directly into a video processor that has a SDI input, a Stewart screen with electric variable masking....but I'm not serious about HT because I choose not to use a HTPC.:rolleyes

Grave of the Fireflies is off-center a little. The bottom black area is a tad bigger than the top.
