Any word yet? Hell--at this point I'll take an unsubstantiated rumor!
I'm eagerly awaiting this. And I don't believe there's been any news. Not even a rumor.
ok, let's start the rumor right here If I were a betting man, I'd say October.
I'll ask the pre-cog in my swimming pool...
I'm so desperate for this disk!!!!
Here's my prediction for the specs:
-2.35:1 anamorphic transfer
-DD and DTS 5.1 audio (it's Spielberg, come on!)
-"Creating the future" - production design documentary
-"The Science Behind Minoroty Report" documentary
-"The Making of Minority Report" documentary, on-set footage, interviews with major cast and crew
-Trailers, Tv-Spots, Production Notes
The movie only came out, what, four weeks ago? I think we could wait.
I wouldn't expect a release till 2003 if it's anything like the A.I. DVD.
Only thing we know for sure is that this will be a DREAMWORKS DVD release, not FOX.
Fox and DreamWorks co-produced both "Cast Away" and "Minority Report". As part of the package, Fox received NA home video rights for "Cast Away" and DreamWorks got "Minority Report".
As part of a separate deal, the same two studios set up "Road To Perdition". But I believe DreamWorks retained DVD/video rights to that as well.
It's all the same... both are champs when it comes to DVD.
DVD.IGN.COM has only mentioned rumblings, but perhaps before the end of the year they are saying. I think I read somewhere that the DVD is already finished. The DVD for Austin Powers: Goldmember is already complete too.
I'm betting on a 2 disc set and wouldn't mind a long documentary.
i would wager on a 2 disc set, very similar to A.I. in terms of content. DTS, DD, multiple featurettes on specific part of production. I would estimate a December or January release.
Oh, don't forget the commentary that's sure to be included.
And don't forget that people are going to complain about excessive grain and wonder if it's a crappy transfer.
I think Minority Report's PQ is gonna be very bad as there were a lot of grains when I watched it in cinema.
Kevin, I know you probably meant that (many of us will find room to disagree as grain does not = bad), but that was beautifuly timed coming after the post above yours.
My bet on month of release? November. Dreamworks will push the title as their big one for the holiday season. If not, all they have to push against Episode II, Beauty and the Beast, BTTF, Spider-Man and every other summer movie is Spider-Man. With that in mind, I am confident of a release this side of Christmas.
Based upon what I saw tonight on the big screen, I will wait before I emphatically state that I can't wait for the DVD.
Grainy, bleached, filtered, not a good video presentation at all. I was not impressed in the least. Not a bad movie though, IMO, but I will not purchase the DVD --- even if they care to clean it up. It will not correct what I saw as a meager cinema presentation.
Will the DVD be as stuffed full of advertising as the movie was?
I guess this just comes down to personal taste, but I cannot get enough of that filming style. I loved it in AI and equally as much in MR. Though, storywise, I don't think they are equals. Anyway, I'll be picking up MR the day it comes out.
By the way, can anyone recommend other films that employed a similar style of photography?
I know I'm pushing up a thread that's been left dead for 4 days but I just now saw Minority Report yesterday and it's instantly become one of my favorite movies this whole year! And also one of Spielberg's best IMO.
I, too, cannot wait for this on DVD. My bet it'll be a two-disc set like A.I., if what I heard about Dreamworks releasing this through their homevideo division is true.
And I don't understand why alot of people didn't like the visual style of the movie. I thought it was beautiful from the get-go when it began with the company logos underwater.
