the disc comes out in what, 2 1/2 weeks? when can we expect to see review from the major sites? I've been waiting for this one, but I won't buy if the extras are as bad as the news release purported them to be.

Ron, will you be reviewing this disc?

    Regards, Nathan

I, too, am waiting for some reviews. Missed the theatrical run so I'm looking forward to the dvd.

I've read another R2 review in one of the other threads. I myself can't wait for this DVD. I loved it in theaters, and can't wait to own it.

It seems as if reasonably early reviews are becoming more and more rare.

I've seen the disc. I just finished watching it, actually. I work at a video store and we got our rental copies in yesterday. I haven't watched the extras yet, just the movie. Picture quality is very good. The movie has sort of the same greyish, faded look that Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down had, and there is a bit of visible grain most of the time, but it's not distracting. It's a great transfer really. I would not hesitate to buy it, in fact, I probably will once it's released.

I can't commend on the sound, because I watched it with Dolby 2.0 thru headphones. My DD reciever is on the fritz. However, the movie is going to sound awesome. I'm positive of that. There's both Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks, both are bound to be excellent.

I'm not really good at this reviewing stuff. I'll leave that to Ron. I could take a look at the special features and post my thoughts later.

The grains are there on purpose, Janusz Kaminski, and Steven Spielberg add them for visual reference, just like in Saving Private Ryan, Shindlers List and A.I.

Isn't Dreamworks one of the studios that does not send out discs for review anymore? If that's the case then Ron would have to rely on his other connections or just wait to buy the DVD when it comes out.

We just got our screener copy today.

It will take me at least 2 days to review this
title as it is a 2-disc set.

I estimate a review up by Sunday the latest.

It is my next review. Stay tuned!

ron, do you think you can make an exception to your recent less graphics idea? can't we just let it slip by, for old time's sake? [IMG]

I'll tell you this much after just watching
the movie portion of the Minority Report DVD...
    (From my upcoming review)...
This is a hard film to judge on terms of transfer
quality. Had I not seen this film theatrically, I
would think that there was some sort of problem
    with the transfer.
The problem is not really a problem. Spielberg
intentionally shot most of this film in high contrast
that completely washes out colors but also gives the
    film a very coarse background.
All of this is evident on the DVD. The picture never
looks smooth nor color accurate. You are always at the
    mercy of Spielberg's so-called stylish filmmaking. I
understand he probably wanted to paint the future in
washed out textures, but I did not personally like
the way he lensed this film.
The transfer is probably perfect if you realize that
this is how it looked theatrically.
The 5.1 DTS audio is amazing! I'll talk more about
    that in my review.

I think one of the problems with the 'grain effect' Spielberg uses is that it doesn't convert particularly well to DVD because of the resolution limitations and compression of the format. Watching A.I. on dvd it became kind of distracting, while it seemed much more subtle (though still noticeable) with Minority Report on the big screen.

All of that said, Minority Report is a no-brainer for me - Spielberg's most enjoyable popcorn movie since Raiders.

As I stated, this transfer is excellent, but
unless you saw this film theatrically, you would
    never know it.

There's a scene in chapter 12 where John Anderton
visits the Eyeworks doctor. It is so intentionally
grainy (not to mention sepia-toned) that it looks
like you are watching a VHS copy. This is all
    intentional.
