I hope it is better than "Independence Day" or "2012" was.

I enjoyed both films immensely. Dopey but lots of fun.

I think it's great somebody is making a big WWII picture. We'll find out how it is but I think if he's got a good cast and hopefully a good script it could be a fun night at the movies.

I'm concern this is just another film like Pearl Harbor. I'm not very hopeful about the quality of this film, but we'll see.

PEARL HARBOR uses TITANIC formula to bring the audience from romance to WAR. That cannot be compared to original TORA TORA TORA, even with director's cut that came out in later days, the DC cannot shift PH away from being another popcorn flick.

Me too, is concerned whether the MIDWAY remake by Roland Emmerich is going to be too ID4~ish or not. Especially with production funding supported by Mainland China Studio, even though it is deep rooted in Mainland Chinese culture that anything that Whack/Anti-Japs is highly encouraged.
Of the WW2 war movies made by Clint EastWood, only FLAG of FATHERS gets screened widely in Mainland China and eventually with movie discs release. Letters from IwoJima is totally not "recognized" widely as it's too "pro-enemy". Hence... to expect another "the PATRIOT" style story telling of the war in Midway is probably gonna be... hmmm... hard.

Probably. It seems likely that Mandy Moore is there to be someone's love interest.

Pearl Harbor is a ridiculous movie that laughs at the idea of historical accuracy, but it's also at times an effective and impactful one. And John Schwartzman's cinematography was beautiful.

It's not like the 1976 Midway was exactly strong when it comes to performance or historical accuracy, either. Though Harry Stradling Jr.'s Technicolor cinematography was also beautiful.

I get the criticisms of Pearl Harbor (which I enjoyed) but I thought the actual attack was historically accurate. I haven’t seen it in a while so what is historically inaccurate?

Perusing the web most Of the “historically inaccurate” claims are minor like radio technology, ship paint color, lack of Chinese lettering on bomber jackets etc.

My point is for the most part, the battle itself is pretty accurate.
