If you don't see it on the BB shelves, ask.

That's what happened to me, and that's what I did.

Before a search was even done I was told if the store

did not have it in stock they would ship it to me FREE.

If another store has it in stock they can have it transferred

and it will be held for you.

A search in their computers found me a copy of PELHAM

which, while not in the sale rack, was among the general

population of action Blu-ray titles.

I always check the general population racks. My experience in these stores has always been that I know more than what the kid who's 'running the aisle' does. I don't say that to be pompous; it's just the truth. A lot of times they just tell you whatever comes to mind just to get it over with. They're generally clueless.

I miss the days of simply walking into a store, seeing the item you want, getting all thrilled and buying it and having it immediately.

That might be true, but you don't know more than what they can find out as far as that store's in-house inventory.

I think you meant to say "more than what they can find out as far as that store's inventory if they care to check on a computer terminal, assuming one is handy and they admit to working in that department."

The store personnel really are, for the most part, pretty much clueless.

Hi Rick!

I do agree with your statement that Best Buy

staff, for the most part, are clueless about the

product they sell, but I don't think it's a problem

to get them to check inventory.

I just asked a salesman. He wrote down the

SKU/BARCODE# off the label on the empty rack

and ran it through their computer.

Quite frankly, with some people here having

difficulty finding the title(s) on the store racks,
I would think they would go the extra effort to

ask someone to check store inventory.

...and if they don't have it, they certainly make

every effort to get it from another store or have

it shipped to you at no cost.

OK, I made more of an effort (it's not the first time I've ever done that, by the way) and one store told me over the phone about another store who had the movie in stock. When I called the second store, the young girl on the phone looked it up and told me she only had the 2009 version. If we would have left it alone there, I would have been out of luck... but with a little more pressing, she told me to hold on while she asked another guy in the Media department.

After about 5 minutes holding on the phone, she returned telling me yes, they had ONE copy of the 1974 version left - and she agreed to hold it here for me. I'm going to pick it up right now. (Good thing we pressed a bit, otherwise it would have ended with her telling me "No, I only have the 2009 version").

Like Ron stated, I never had a problem with them checking their inventory status which they can do very easily.

Just got back with the Blu-ray and I've already done a half hour's worth of watching. (Unluckily, I just watched the old DVD recently with my young nephew who comes to my home once a week for Movie Night; had I known about this Blu, I would have waited for it). But I just wanted to say that -- to my eyes anyway without a comparison -- the movie's contrast looks as I've always remembered it.

Finally got over to my Best Buy today and scored both of these. Midnight Cowboy was in an end-cap display but nothing was clearly identified as a BB Exclusive as they have been in the past. Found a few copies of Taking of Pelham in the general alphabetical aisle and graciously moved them to an empty slot in the end-cap. The Pelham remake was displayed somewhere else, in recent bestsellers or some such.

Both films were priced at $14.99 with no indication anywhere that they were on sale this week. I had a salesperson scan them to be sure they would ring up at $9.99, which they did. Fortunately, I was armed with Ronald's advice about getting them shipped if necessary. But I came home with both, and I look forward to my upcoming free evening tonight.

Casino Royale was suppose to have the $9.99 sale price but didn't when checked out. A Best Buy employee confirmed it was suppose to be $9.99, so they had to do some trickery on the register to get it to ring up as $9.99.

Taking of Peltham and Casino Royale both had just one copy available on May 29, which is a far cry from the January exclusives, which had a separate shelf devoted to them with around 10 each.
