I'm keeping a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel, a program with which I am not very familiar.

Something crazy is happening. Well into my sheet (the 23rd row), I am not able to enter a simple number. I want to enter '77', and all goes well until I tab to another cell or hit enter, at which point my '77' changes to what appears to be a date ('03/17/00').

This is in column B; column A has a list of dates (the date corresponding to the problem row is 03/21/03).

I suspect that this cell is instructed to perform some sort of calculation (?).

Can anyone help me enter my 77 ???

    Thanks!

    Jon

The odds are Jon, that your cell has some kind of date formatting. Right-click on the cell and select Format Cells and see what's in there. If it is a formatting issue, then your number is still there but Excel is trying to display it according to the formatting applied to the cell. Change the formatting and all should be ok.

    Bingo!

I knew it was something basic like that.

    Many thanks, Rob.
