I met Michael Tolkin at a signing this past evening for his new novel, 'Under Radar.' He was also nice enough to sign my Criterion LD of 'The Player,' as well as my MovieCD of that film (yay for weird mid-90s attempts at new video formats). While he was signing, I asked him about the status of 'The Rapture' on DVD, mentioning that I've been unable to get a hold of the SE LD. He said that he wants to do it, but he just needs to "get around to it." I took this to mean that New Line (or whoever holds the video rights now) is waiting for his input on a new transfer, sound mix, etc. So, while this certainly isn't breaking news, at least we know that it's on Tolkin's "to-do" list.

Ha! I used to be Michael's assistant about 4 years ago. Him being in New York would explain why he hasn't called me back this week. [IMG]
Unfortunately, New Line has been pretty uptight about releasing a lot of the earlier Fine Line material, which is why we're waiting on such obvious contenders as this, "Proof" (starring Russell Crowe) and "Once Were Warriors" (starring Temuera Morrison of "Episode II").

I was just talking about this film (The Rapture) the other day.

I'd kinda given up hope it was coming, as New Line had said somewhere (in a HTF chat?) that it wouldn't be a good commercial release. Though, to be honest, I'm sure it was announced before that.

    I hope we see it.

And that's another point. While were on the subject of New Line, where the hell is 'Once Were Warriors' and 'Short Cuts'?

I have been waiting for this DVD since it appeared in the booklet for the first Austin Power's DVD. One of my favorite films. Mimi (a very under-rated actor) and Kane Hodder in the same picture! What more could my little Friday The 13th heart ask for!

Damin: I have a couple copies of "The Rapture" SE LD and I'd like to get rid of one - if interested, just tell me what you think it's worth.

I would love to get The Rapture...if New Line won't do it, then perhaps Image or Anchor Bay will. I hope Tolkin "gets around to it" pretty soon!

I love The Rapture and hope it gets released soon. Normally I VERY patient about things coming out on DVD, but in this case I'm dying to get it.
Without a doubt Mimi Rogers' best performance. I hope that Michael Tolkin does a commentary, I'd love to know how he came up with some of the ideas. Also a DVD of his The New Age is long overdue.

Jeff Adkins, can you point me in the direction of short Cuts on DVd in R2.

    It's not out in UK.

    Cheers.

Neil, I'm not Jeff but I'll point you toward dvdgo.com - Short Cuts was issued in Spain, and just to add, the Spanish subtitles can be turned off.
Add me as another person who wants The Rapture on dvd. Thanks to the good graces of a fellow HTFer, I had the chance to see this movie again recently, this time on widescreen vhs. I'd love to hear any commentary track, new or vintage, on this unique film.
